How to Use the Vinted Profit Calculator

The Vinted profit calculator answers one question: how much really stays with you from a single sale. You don't need to install anything or create an account - enter three numbers and see the result immediately.

  1. In the Price field, enter the amount you're selling the item for. The default is 18 €.
  2. In the Acquisition cost field, enter how much you paid for the item. The default is 4 €.
  3. In the Your shipping portion field, enter the amount you chip in for shipping yourself. The default is 0 €.

Profit is price minus acquisition cost minus your shipping portion. Margin is that profit divided by price and multiplied by 100%.

Example with the default values: 18 € - 4 € - 0 € = 14.00 € profit, and the margin is 77.78%. Everything is calculated in your browser, so the result changes instantly when you edit a number, and the values you enter are never sent anywhere.

If the price is 0 € or less, the margin is 0 - you can't calculate it without a sale price.

How to Determine Acquisition Cost and Your Shipping Portion

A meaningful result depends on two numbers you provide yourself. It's worth taking a moment to think about them instead of entering the first values that come to mind.

  • Bought at a sale, a thrift store, or a flea market - enter the amount you actually paid.
  • Item from your own closet - the acquisition cost is usually 0 €, but you can enter the amount you once paid for it if you want to know whether the sale paid you back.
  • Handmade items - add up the materials and parts used for one item.
  • Packaging - there is no separate field for it, so if you want to include it, the simplest way is to add it to the acquisition cost.

Your shipping portion is not the entire shipping fee, only the part you cover yourself. When the buyer pays for shipping in full, enter 0 €. When you chip in for shipping - for example, you ship a heavier package or offer free shipping - enter the amount you actually take out of your own pocket.

Stick to one rule: enter only money you actually spent in the acquisition cost and shipping fields. That way, you can easily compare the calculator's result with what remains in your account after the sale.

Does Vinted Charge a Seller Fee?

Fee rules on selling platforms vary and change over time - they depend on the country, item category, and delivery method, among other things. That's why you won't find any specific rate or percentage in this tool. Before you list an item, check the current pricing and rules that apply on Vinted.

The Vinted profit calculator deliberately does not include platform fees. It calculates only what you enter: price, acquisition cost, and your shipping portion. So it shows the result from the difference between the price and your expenses alone.

If you want to know how much remains after deductions, subtract the fees from the profit shown by the calculator. You'll find the fee amount in your transaction summary.

Keep in mind that taxes, packaging costs, and returns also affect the final result. All of that happens outside the tool, and it's worth factoring in when you plan your price.

Margin vs. Markup in Vinted Sales

These two terms are often confused, but they describe the same profitability from different angles.

  • Margin relates to the sale price: margin = profit ÷ price × 100%.
  • Markup relates to cost: markup = profit ÷ acquisition cost × 100%.

Margin will never exceed 100%, because profit is part of the price. Markup can be many times higher - with a cheap acquisition and a high price, it grows very quickly.

Example with the default values: price 18 €, acquisition cost 4 €, your shipping portion 0 €. Profit is 14.00 €. Margin: 14.00 € ÷ 18 € × 100% = 77.78%. Markup: 14.00 € ÷ 4 € × 100% = 350%.

The calculator shows margin because in a sale, the most important thing is what share of the price stays in your pocket. However, if you buy very cheaply and sell high, markup better shows how well you use your cost - you can calculate it in your head or on a regular calculator.

Limitations and What the Tool Doesn't Calculate

The calculator is simple by design and calculates only what you enter in three fields. It's worth knowing what isn't included so you don't treat the result as a full accounting.

  • Platform fees and commissions - there is no rate or percentage in the tool.
  • Taxes and tax filings.
  • Packaging, tags, labels, and materials costs.
  • Withdrawal costs, currency conversion, and exchange-rate differences.
  • Returns, complaints, and situations where the package comes back to you.
  • The entire shipping charge when the buyer covers it - you enter only your portion.

So treat the result as a starting point, not a final summary. It is accurate within the numbers you provide: it shows the difference between the price and your expenses and that difference's share of the price. When you add actual fees and taxes yourself, you'll see the full picture of the sale.

Before you list an item, check Vinted's current rules and pricing and your own costs - they decide whether the price you're planning makes sense.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you calculate profit from a Vinted sale?

Enter the sale price, acquisition cost, and your shipping portion. The calculator subtracts your expenses from the price and shows profit and margin. With the default values, it comes out to 18 € - 4 € - 0 € = 14.00 € profit and 77.78% margin.

Does the Vinted profit calculator include Vinted's fee?

No. The tool contains no rates or commissions - it calculates only price minus acquisition cost minus your shipping portion. Check Vinted's current pricing for actual fees, and subtract them from the result if you want to know the amount after deductions.

What should I enter in the Your shipping portion field?

Only the amount you chip in for shipping yourself. If the buyer covers shipping in full, enter 0 €. If you offer free shipping or pay extra for a heavier package, enter the amount you actually take out of your own pocket.

What's the difference between margin and markup?

Margin is profit divided by sale price, and markup is profit divided by acquisition cost. Margin will never exceed 100%, while markup can be many times higher. With a price of 18 € and a cost of 4 €, the margin is 77.78%, and the markup is 350%.

Is the data entered in the calculator sent anywhere?

No. The calculations run in your browser, and the numbers you enter are never sent anywhere. So you can freely test different prices and costs before you decide on a final amount.

What margin should I aim for when selling on Vinted?

There is no single good number - it all depends on acquisition cost, time, platform fees, and taxes. Instead of chasing a specific percentage, check whether, after subtracting all costs, you're left with an amount that rewards your time.

Vinted's fees and rules are for guidance only - check the platform's current pricing and terms before you sell.
