How to use the Shopify fee calculator

The Shopify fee calculator answers one specific question: how much of the product price you keep after the transaction fee is deducted. Just enter three numbers, and the result appears immediately, without clicking a button.

1. Price — the amount the customer pays. Default 45.
2. Payment fee % — the percentage transaction fee. Default 2.9.
3. Fixed — the fixed transaction fee. Default 0.3.

Below the fields, you will see two results: Shopify fee, which is what the payment processor takes, and You receive, which is what remains in your account. The entire calculation runs in your browser, so the amounts you enter are not sent anywhere.

You can change any of the three values. If you know your rates — from current pricing, a contract, or a payout statement — enter them in place of the defaults and calculate fees for your own case.

What the fields mean: price, fee percentage, and fixed fee

Three fields describe one sales transaction. It is worth knowing exactly what to enter so the result makes sense.

• Price is the amount the buyer pays. If a customer buys several units, enter the total order value.
• Payment fee % is the percentage part of the transaction fee, entered as a number — for example, 2.9 means 2.9%. This rate depends on your plan, market, and payment method, so it is editable.
• Fixed is the amount added to every transaction regardless of its value. It is usually a small amount in your settlement currency.

The default values, 2.9% and $0.30, are only a starting point in the fields. You can override them without limits and calculate the fee using your own rates.

How to calculate the amount you receive after Shopify Payments fees

The calculator uses two simple formulas. The first shows the transaction fee:

Shopify fee = price × payment fee ÷ 100 + fixed fee

The second shows what remains after it is deducted:

You receive = price × (1 − payment fee ÷ 100) − fixed fee

For the default values — price 45, fee 2.9%, and fixed fee 0.30 — it looks like this:

• Shopify fee = 45 × 2.9 ÷ 100 + 0.30 = 1.305 + 0.30 = $1.61
• You receive = 45 × (1 − 0.029) − 0.30 = 43.695 − 0.30 = $43.40

Note that the fixed fee lowers your payout regardless of order value, while the percentage part grows with the price. For cheap products, the fixed component therefore matters more than for expensive ones.

What other Shopify fees might apply

The calculator shows only the fee for a single transaction. Other items may also appear in your billing — it is worth knowing about them, though they are not part of this calculation.

• Plan subscription — a monthly fee for using the platform, depending on the plan you choose.
• External gateway fees — when payments are handled by another provider, the platform may add an extra transaction fee.
• Refunds and chargebacks — refunding a customer does not always refund the transaction fee; return or dispute fees may apply.
• Currency conversion — selling in a currency other than your settlement currency usually involves an exchange cost.
• Apps and add-ons — third-party tools are billed separately, often on a subscription basis.

Rates and rules change over time and depend on country, plan, and payment method. Before planning your margin, check current pricing and your account terms.

Calculator limitations and what it does not include

The calculator calculates the transaction fee and the amount left after it is deducted. This is intentionally narrow — treat the result as a starting point, not a full profit statement.

• It does not include monthly plan fees or other subscriptions.
• It does not add refund, chargeback, or dispute fees.
• It does not include taxes, duties, shipping costs, product cost, or third-party gateway fees.
• It does not convert currencies — amounts are shown in dollars, but by entering your own rates, you can calculate in any currency and read the result in those same units.
• It does not know your individual terms or the platform's current pricing.

That is why, for pricing and negotiations, the result is approximate: it shows the order of magnitude of the transaction fee, while the final settlement depends on your agreement and current rates.
