How to Use the Etsy Dropshipping Profit Calculator

The Etsy dropshipping profit calculator needs three numbers: the price your customer sees, your supplier cost, and the shipping cost you pay. The fields are filled with example amounts, so you can see how the calculation works right away.

  1. In the Price field, enter the amount the customer pays (default $29.99).
  2. In the Supplier cost field, enter your purchase price for the product (default $11).
  3. In the Shipping field, enter the shipping cost you pay (default $5).
  4. Read the three results: Etsy fees (with listing fee $0.20), Profit, and Margin.

For the default values, the tool shows Etsy fees $3.30, profit $10.69, and margin 35.65%. Change one amount to see what happens to your profit at a different price or with a more expensive supplier.

Enter amounts in the platform currency, by default US dollars. Selling in another currency? Enter all three numbers in the same currency — the tool does not convert currencies, so the math stays consistent.

How to Calculate Etsy Fees: Transaction, Payment, Listing

The tool calculates fees using hardcoded rates: a 6.5% transaction fee on the price, a 3% payment processing fee on the price, a $0.25 fixed payment fee, and a $0.20 listing fee. The formula is:

Etsy fees = price × (6.5% + 3%) + $0.25 + $0.20

In short: 9.5% of the price plus $0.45 in fixed fees. For a price of $29.99, it looks like this:

  • $29.99 × 9.5% = $2.85 (the percentage portion),
  • $2.85 + $0.25 + $0.20 = $3.30 in total fees.

The cheaper the product, the larger the share of fixed fees in the price. For an item that costs a few dollars, the listing fee and fixed payment fee alone eat up a large part of your margin, so check the calculator for the cheapest and most expensive items in your shop.

The rates used in the tool are approximate. Check Etsy's current pricing for your country and account type, because they can change.

Dropshipping and Shipping Costs in the Sale Price

In dropshipping, profit is not just the difference between the price and supplier cost. You also need to subtract shipping and Etsy fees. The tool does this in one step:

profit = price - supplier cost - shipping - Etsy fees

With the default values: $29.99 - $11 - $5 - $3.30 = $10.69.

  • Supplier cost is the amount you actually pay for the product, including after discounts and for larger orders.
  • Shipping is the cost you pay. If the customer pays for delivery separately, add that amount to the price so the math matches reality.
  • Price is the amount the customer sees, including shipping if you build it into the product price.
  • Packaging, inserts, or shipping insurance are also costs — if you pay them, add them to supplier cost or shipping.

A common mistake is calculating profit only as price minus supplier. That overstates the result because it ignores Etsy fees and shipping, which are often several dollars per order.

Understanding Margin, Profit, and Break-Even Price

Profit is the amount left after one order. Margin shows what portion of the price that profit represents: margin = profit / price × 100%. With the default values, that is 35.65%, or a little more than one third of the price.

  • A high margin with low dollar profit means a cheap product — you may sell a lot, but each order brings in little.
  • A low margin with high dollar profit can be acceptable, but a supplier cost increase can quickly turn it into a loss.

The break-even price is the price at which profit is zero: break-even price = (supplier cost + shipping + $0.45) / 0.905. For costs of $11 and $5, that gives about $18.18. Below that price, every order loses money.

Test a few scenarios: raise supplier cost by 10%, add more expensive shipping, or change the price by a few dollars. You will see how sensitive your profit is and whether you have room for discounts or free shipping.

Tool Limitations and What It Does Not Calculate

The calculator covers Etsy fees within the rates built into the tool, supplier cost, and shipping. There are still several items that change the result in a real shop:

  • VAT and taxes — the tool does not calculate sales tax, VAT, or income tax.
  • Offsite Ads and advertising — offsite ad fees and promotional campaigns are not included.
  • Returns, claims, and exchanges — the cost of handling a return, reshipping, or a lost product is not part of the math.
  • Currency exchange rates — the tool does not convert currencies; exchange-rate differences stay outside the calculation.
  • Other Etsy fees — additional sales channels, subscriptions, featured listings, and individual account terms.
  • Labor and supplies — packaging, labels, tape, and time spent handling orders.

For that reason, treat the result as a starting point for your own calculation, not a complete business accounting. Add fixed business costs and fees from other channels separately. Before you set a price, check Etsy's current pricing and your account terms, because the rates in effect may differ from those built into the tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate Etsy dropshipping profit?

Subtract supplier cost, shipping cost, and Etsy fees from the price. In the calculator, you enter three amounts and immediately see profit and margin — with the default values, that is $10.69 profit and 35.65% margin.

How much are Etsy fees on a sale?

The tool calculates them as 9.5% of the price plus $0.45: a 6.5% transaction fee, a 3% payment fee, a $0.25 fixed payment fee, and a $0.20 listing fee. These are approximate rates — check Etsy's pricing for current values.

Is Etsy dropshipping profitable?

It depends on the price, supplier cost, and shipping. Calculate a few variations and check whether the margin covers discounts, ads, and returns. If there is still room left after those items, the model can work.

What margin should I aim for on Etsy?

There is no single universal number — it depends on the category, ad costs, and returns. Use the rule that your margin must also cover costs outside the calculator, and the break-even price shows the point below which you lose money.

How do I calculate shipping cost in dropshipping?

Enter the amount you actually pay for shipping. If the customer pays for delivery separately, add it to the price so the math reflects reality.

Does the calculator work in a currency other than dollars?

Yes, just enter amounts in the currency you choose. The tool does not convert exchange rates, so enter all three fields in the same currency.

Etsy rates in the tool are approximate and hardcoded; before you decide, check Etsy's current pricing for your country and currency.
