How to Use the FBA Storage Fee Calculator

The Amazon FBA storage fee calculator calculates the total storage fee for the entered number of months. You only need three fields:

• Volume (m³) – default 0.05. Enter the volume of goods that will sit in storage.
• Storage months – default 3. Enter how many months you want to keep the product in storage.
• Rate / m³ per month – default 26. This is the rate per cubic meter per month; you can change it to your own.

The fee is calculated simply: volume in m³ × number of months × rate per m³ per month. For the default values, this gives 0.05 × 3 × 26 = 3.90, so the result is Storage fee $3.90.

The screen shows one line item: Storage fee. Amounts are shown in the platform currency ($) by default, but if you enter your own rate in any currency, the result will be shown in that same unit.

How to Calculate Product Volume in m³

Volume is the basis of the charge, so it is worth calculating it accurately. The simplest approach: measure the packaging that will actually go to storage, and convert the dimensions to cubic meters.

1. Measure length, width, and height in centimeters.
2. Multiply these three values together.
3. Divide the result by 1,000,000 to get the volume in m³.

Example: a package 40 cm × 30 cm × 25 cm is 30,000 cm³, or 0.03 m³. If you send 100 such packages, the total volume is 0.03 × 100 = 3 m³.

• Use the dimensions of the package in which the goods travel to storage - either a single unit or a case pack.
• For irregular shapes, use the dimensions of the rectangular box that the product fits in.
• Also measure parts that stick out beyond the outline, such as handles or attached accessories.
• If you sell products in bundles, calculate the volume of the entire bundle including the outer packaging.

Once you know the volume of one unit or one package, enter it in the calculator and multiply it by the number of months in your head - the Storage months field accepts any value you need.

Where to Find the Monthly Rate per m³ for Amazon FBA

The rate per m³ per month depends on the marketplace, month, and size category, which is why you can enter your own value in the calculator. The default is $26 per m³ per month - this is an approximate starting value, not a fixed platform price.

You can find current rates in the storage fee schedule provided to sellers. Pay attention to:

• the marketplace the schedule applies to - rates differ between countries,
• the unit - some schedules state an amount per m³, while others use per cubic foot (1 cubic foot is about 0.0283 m³, so divide the rate per cubic foot by 0.0283 to convert it to cubic meters),
• the billing month and size category the rate applies to,
• the currency - if you enter a rate in dollars, euros, or another currency, you will get the result in that same currency.

If you sell several products with different volumes, calculate each one separately and add the results. A single combined result for the whole assortment would be too general, because individual products take up different amounts of space and often stay in storage for different numbers of months.

Seasonal and Size-Based Storage Rate Differences

Storage fees are rarely the same all year. In many marketplaces, they rise during peak sales months, such as before the holidays, and are lower outside the season. There is also a split by size category - standard-size and oversize products are charged differently.

What does this mean in practice?

• If the rate changes from month to month, calculate each period separately and add the results - this gives a more accurate cost than using one average rate.
• If you use one rate for the whole period, treat the result as an estimate. The calculator multiplies one value by all the months you enter.
• Check whether your rate schedule includes additional long-term storage fees - these appear when goods stay in storage for a very long time.
• Oversize products take up more space, so volume itself increases, and the fee increases with it - it is worth calculating them separately from small items.

A good practice is to calculate two scenarios: a short storage period, such as two months, and a longer one, say six months. The difference shows how strongly the cost of warehouse space affects product profitability.

Tool Limitations and What It Does Not Calculate

The calculator calculates only one line item: the storage fee using the formula volume × number of months × rate. It is not a full accounting of selling costs on Amazon.

• It does not include platform commissions, fulfillment fees, shipping, advertising, returns, or other fees.
• It does not add taxes or currency conversion costs, and it does not fetch current exchange rates.
• It does not know the current platform rate schedule - you enter the rate yourself, and the default value is only a starting point.
• It does not split rates by individual month, size category, or season.
• It does not account for the individual terms of your agreement, discounts, or thresholds used by the platform.
• It does not add long-term storage surcharges or fees for removing or disposing of goods.

Treat the result as an approximate cost of warehouse space alone. For decisions about price, margin, or product profitability, add the remaining costs and check the current rate schedule in your seller account. Then you can compare the full picture with what the calculator shows.
