How to Use the Etsy Fee Calculator

The Etsy Fee Calculator walks you through the main costs of selling: the transaction fee, payment fee, listing fee, and any Offsite Ads fee. Enter a few values and instantly see how much of an order remains after platform fees.

What you enter:

• Item price – default 25.
• Shipping paid by buyer – default 4.
• Listing fee – default 0.20.
• Transaction fee % – default 6.5%.
• Payment fee % (Etsy Payments) – default 3%.
• Fixed payment fee – default 0.25.

Percentage rates, the listing fee, and the fixed payment fee are editable. Default values are filled in, but you can change them to your own, so the calculator is still useful if the platform's pricing changes. Amounts are shown in the platform currency, US dollars ($), but you can enter your own values in any currency. Calculations run in your browser.

How to Calculate the Transaction Fee and Payment Fee

Both fees use the same base amount: the item price plus shipping paid by the buyer. Let's call it the order total.

1. Order total = item price + shipping paid by the buyer.
2. Transaction fee = order total × transaction fee rate ÷ 100.
3. Payment fee = order total × payment fee rate ÷ 100 + fixed payment fee.

Example using the default values: item price 25, shipping 4, transaction fee 6.5%, payment fee 3%, fixed payment fee 0.25, listing fee 0.20, no Offsite Ads.

• Order total: 25 + 4 = 29.
• Transaction fee: $1.89.
• Payment fee: $1.12.
• Listing fee: $0.20.
• Offsite Ads (max. $100): $0.00.
• Total Etsy fees: $3.21.
• Left after fees: $25.80.

Notice that the transaction fee and payment fee are calculated on the item price plus shipping. Even when the buyer pays for shipping, it still increases the fee base. The amount left after fees is not profit yet — it is the money remaining after platform fees, but before your costs.

Offsite Ads: 15%/12% Rates and the $100 Cap

Offsite Ads are sales that happen thanks to an ad outside the platform. In the calculator, you choose one of three options: no, yes – 15%, and yes – 12%. The rates and cap are fixed, so you cannot change them manually — you only choose which option to select from the list.

The fee is calculated like this:

• the selected percentage rate is applied to the order total (price plus shipping),
• the result is capped at $100 — you will not pay more than that for a single order.

In other words, the Offsite Ads fee is the lower of two amounts: the percentage of the order or $100. With the default values, Offsite Ads is set to no, so the fee is $0.00. The $100 cap only matters when you select a 15% or 12% Offsite Ads sale and the percentage would exceed $100.

Which rate should you choose? The one that applies to your shop. If you are not sure, check the platform's current rules and pricing — the tool does not determine it for you; it only uses the value you select.

Listing Fees and Renewals

The listing fee is the cost of showing a listing in your shop. The tool defaults to 0.20, but this field is editable — if the current rate is different, enter your own.

The listing fee is included in total Etsy fees along with the transaction fee, payment fee, and any Offsite Ads fee. In the calculator, it is added once per order.

• You list a new product — you add the listing fee.
• A listing expires and you renew it manually — you also add this fee.
• You sell several units or renew several listings in one order — add up the fees and enter the total.

This is one of those items that is easy to overlook when setting a price. It is small in a single order, but with many listings and renewals, it can add up to a noticeable amount.

Limitations and What the Tool Does Not Calculate

The calculator shows platform fees based on the values you enter. It is an estimating tool — it helps you plan a price, but it does not replace accounting or a full cost analysis.

What it does not calculate:

• VAT and taxes – it does not add sales tax, VAT, income tax, or contributions.
• Cost of goods – materials, production, packaging, labels.
• Actual shipping – buyer shipping is part of the fee base, but the tool does not subtract what you pay the carrier.
• Number of units in the order – the result applies to one item at the value entered; for multiple units, enter the total amount or calculate them separately.
• Other platform fees – for example, fees for on-platform ads, subscriptions, currency conversion, or extra services, unless you account for them manually.
• Currency exchange rates – the tool does not convert currencies, so enter all amounts in the same currency.

The rates in the tool are estimates and can be edited. Before you calculate your margin for the long term, check the platform's current pricing and the terms for your account — rates can depend on your situation, your billing method, and the programs you participate in.
