How to Use the Etsy POD Profit Calculator

The calculator runs in your browser: enter your data and see the result immediately. You do not need to install anything or create an account.

There are four values to enter:

  • Price — what the customer pays for the product (default $24.99).
  • POD cost — what you pay your supplier for printing and preparing the product (default $9.50).
  • POD shipping — the shipping cost on your side (default $4.00).
  • Listing — the cost to list an item (default $0.20).

After you change any value, the calculator immediately recalculates three results: Etsy fees, Profit / unit, and Margin. All calculations run locally on your device.

Amounts are in US dollars by default, which is the currency this tool uses. If you sell in another currency, enter your own rates in that currency — the calculator will calculate exactly what you see in the fields.

For the default values, the calculator shows: Etsy fees $2.82, Profit / unit $8.67, and Margin 34.68%.

What Goes Into Etsy Fees and Where the Rates Come From

Etsy fees in the calculator consist of four parts: 6.5% of the price, 3% of the price, a fixed $0.25 fee, and the listing cost you enter yourself.

ComponentHow it is calculated
Transaction fee6.5% of product price
Payment processing3% of product price
Fixed fee$0.25 per order
ListingFee to list an item (default $0.20)

Total: fees = 6.5% of price + 3% of price + $0.25 + listing cost. For a price of $24.99 and a listing cost of $0.20, that comes to $2.82.

The first component is the transaction fee, the second is payment processing, the third is the fixed order fee, and the fourth is the listing fee.

The percentage rates and fixed fee in the calculator are estimates. Etsy's fee schedule can change based on factors such as seller country or payment method, so check current rates in Etsy's official fee schedule before pricing your product. You enter the listing cost yourself, so it is easy to match your own situation.

How to Set POD Cost and Shipping

POD cost is the amount you pay your supplier for one product sold. Include printing, the blank item, packaging, and any surcharges for size or color. The simplest approach is to copy the amount from your supplier's price list or invoice.

POD shipping is the shipping cost on your side — what the supplier charges to send the package to the customer. The calculator treats this amount as your cost, so if the customer pays for shipping separately, add it to the product price.

Listing is the cost to list an item. Enter the amount you actually pay to list or renew the product.

Use per-unit costs, not monthly or wholesale ones — the calculator calculates profit from one unit sold. It helps to calculate your cheapest and most expensive product variant separately because POD and shipping costs can differ.

How to Read Profit and Margin

The calculator shows three results: Etsy fees, Profit / unit, and Margin.

Profit / unit = price − POD cost − POD shipping − Etsy fees. This is the amount left from one sale.

Margin = profit ÷ price × 100%. It tells you what share of the price you keep after costs and fees.

Step-by-step example for the default values:

  1. Product price: $24.99.
  2. Etsy fees: $2.82, which is 6.5% and 3% of the price, the fixed $0.25 fee, and $0.20 for listing.
  3. Profit: 24.99 − 9.50 − 4.00 − 2.82 = $8.67.
  4. Margin: 8.67 ÷ 24.99 × 100% = 34.68%.

A 34.68% margin means that after costs and fees, you keep a little more than one third of the price. If the result is too low, see whether you can raise the price, lower the POD cost, or choose cheaper shipping. The calculator recalculates new scenarios immediately, so you can compare several options easily.

Calculator Limitations and What It Does Not Include

The calculator estimates profit from one unit sold based on the data you enter. It is a quick guide, not a full business accounting report.

  • It does not include taxes — VAT, income tax, or other charges.
  • It does not include extra fees: ads, promoted listings, discounts and coupons, returns, currency conversion costs, or shop subscriptions.
  • It does not use live exchange rates — you enter amounts in one currency of your choice.
  • It does not check Etsy's current fee schedule because the rates in the calculator are estimates.
  • It does not account for your individual circumstances: billing country, payment rates, or supplier agreements.
  • It does not show one-time costs: designs, samples, photos, or tools.
  • It does not predict how many units you will sell.
  • It does not calculate packaging or material costs unless you add them to the POD cost yourself.

The result is therefore a starting point for your own pricing. It is best to enter your real costs and leave a buffer for taxes, returns, and unexpected expenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate profit from print-on-demand sales on Etsy?

Enter the product price, POD cost, shipping cost, and listing fee. The calculator subtracts costs and Etsy fees from the price, then shows the result as Profit / unit and margin. For the default values, the result is $8.67 in profit and a 34.68% margin.

Which Etsy fees does the calculator include?

The calculator adds 6.5% of the price, 3% of the price, a fixed $0.25 fee, and the listing cost you enter. The total appears as Etsy fees. For a $24.99 price and a $0.20 listing, that is $2.82.

Does the calculator work with dollars and other currencies?

Yes. By default, the amounts are in US dollars, which is the currency shown in this tool, but you can enter rates in any currency and calculate in that currency. Just make sure all four values use the same currency.

Does the calculator include taxes and advertising costs?

No. The tool only calculates the price, POD cost, shipping, listing, and Etsy fees at the rates provided. Taxes, ads, discounts, returns, and subscriptions must be added by you, ideally by leaving an appropriate buffer in your pricing.

Where do I get the POD cost for the calculator?

From your print-on-demand supplier's price list or invoice. Enter the amount for one product, including any add-ons you actually pay for, such as a larger size or a different color. Also add packaging if your supplier charges for it separately.

What is a good margin for selling on Etsy?

There is no single right number — it depends on your product price, competition, and fixed costs. It is worth calculating several price scenarios and checking at what margin sales make sense for you. Remember that the calculator's margin does not include taxes or extra fees.

Etsy rates are estimates and depend on your country, currency, and seller program — check Etsy's current fee schedule before using the calculator.
