Other tools you may find usefulHow to use the Amazon.de fee calculator
The Amazon.de fee calculator with VAT helps you check what remains from the price your customer sees. Enter four values, and the tool instantly shows the breakdown. Everything happens in your browser, and your data is never sent anywhere.
You need to enter:
- Gross price for customer (EUR) - the amount the buyer pays, 39.99 € by default.
- VAT % - the tax rate included in the price, 19 by default.
- Amazon referral fee % - the percentage Amazon charges, 15 by default.
- FBA fee - the amount for shipping and order handling, 4.80 € by default.
All rates are only a starting point. You can change them to match your category and the current fee schedule. Amounts are entered in euros because that is Amazon.de's currency, but if you enter your own rates, you can calculate in any currency.
After you change a value, you immediately see four results: VAT included in the price, the net price, the Amazon fee on the gross price, and what remains after VAT, commission, and FBA. For the default values, it looks like this:
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| VAT included in price | 6.38 € |
| Net price | 33.61 € |
| Amazon fee (on gross price) | 6.00 € |
| Left after VAT, commission, and FBA | 22.81 € |
How to calculate VAT included in the gross price
The gross price is the amount with tax included. To extract only the VAT, you cannot simply multiply the gross price by the rate. You need to divide by 100 plus that rate, because the tax is already included in the total.
The formula is simple:
- VAT included in price = gross price × VAT rate ÷ (100 + VAT rate)
- Net price = gross price - VAT included in price
Example using the default values. Gross price 39.99 €, VAT 19%:
- VAT = 39.99 × 19 ÷ 119 = 6.38 €
- Net price = 39.99 - 6.38 = 33.61 €
If you sell with a different rate, enter it in the VAT % field and the result updates immediately. That makes it easy to compare how much tax is included in the price at different rates, such as a reduced rate for certain goods.
It is worth understanding the difference: you always calculate VAT from the gross price, because that is where it is hidden. Multiplying the gross price by the VAT rate would overstate the VAT, because the tax is already included in the total. That is the most common mistake when doing the math by hand.
How to choose the Amazon referral fee rate for your category
The Amazon referral fee, also called the sales commission, depends on the product category. Electronics, clothing, books, and home goods can each have a different percentage. There is no single universal rate for the whole marketplace, so you cannot set the calculator field once and forget it.
The default 15% is only a starting value. Before you calculate, check the current fee schedule for your category and enter the correct percentage. Also remember that some categories have a minimum referral fee. The calculator does not add that minimum, so for very cheap products the result may be too optimistic.
In the tool, the referral fee is calculated from the gross price:
Referral fee = gross price × referral fee percentage ÷ 100
For a price of 39.99 € and a 15% rate, that gives 6.00 €. You will see this amount in the Amazon fee (on gross price) result. If your category has a different rate, change the percentage and see how what remains changes.
How to set the FBA fee for a product
The FBA fee is the cost Amazon charges to store, pack, and ship the product to the customer. Its amount depends on factors such as the product's size, weight, and category. A small, light package will be different from large, heavy equipment.
The calculator has one field for this fee, 4.80 € by default. Enter an amount that fits your product, ideally based on the current fee schedule. If you do not use FBA and ship yourself, you can enter your own shipping and packing cost. The tool treats it the same way and subtracts it from the price.
Remember that the field is for one unit. For bundles, multipacks, or items with unusual dimensions, the fee is often higher, so entering a single amount is a simplification.
Only after you set FBA and the referral fee does the Left after VAT, commission, and FBA result show the amount that remains from the gross price before other costs. For the default values, that is 22.81 € out of 39.99 €.
Calculator limitations and what it does not include
The calculator only calculates what you enter in the four fields. That is a deliberate simplification, so treat the result as a starting point, not a full profit statement.
The tool does not include, among other things:
- the cost of buying or making the product,
- the cost of shipping the product to Amazon's warehouse,
- storage and long-term storage fees,
- advertising and promotion costs,
- return and customer service costs,
- the monthly subscription and other fixed fees,
- the minimum referral fee that applies in some categories,
- taxes other than the VAT included in the price, as well as accounting matters,
- currency exchange rates and conversions.
That is why the result is approximate. It is most useful for quickly checking how a change in price, VAT rate, referral fee, or FBA fee affects the amount that remains. You can build the full cost picture by adding the other expenses separately; they are not included here.
The result can be negative. That is normal: it means the gross price alone does not cover VAT, the referral fee, and the FBA fee, so selling at that price would add costs. In that case, consider raising the price or checking the rates you entered.
Frequently asked questions
How much remains from an Amazon.de sale after fees?
For the default values, the calculator shows 22.81 € from a 39.99 € price, after subtracting 6.38 € VAT, 6.00 € referral fee, and 4.80 € FBA fee. This is the amount before product cost and other expenses, so treat it as a starting point.
What Amazon referral fee rate should I enter in the calculator?
The default 15% is only a starting value. Check the current fee schedule for your category and enter the correct percentage. Some categories also have a minimum referral fee, which the tool does not add.
Does the calculator include product cost, advertising, and storage?
No. The tool subtracts only the VAT, referral fee, and FBA fee you enter. Product cost, advertising, storage, returns, and the subscription must be added separately.
What does a negative result in the calculator mean?
It means the gross price alone does not cover VAT, the referral fee, and the FBA fee. In that case, consider raising the price or checking the rates you entered.
Can I calculate in a currency other than euros?
The fields default to euros because that is Amazon.de's currency. If you enter your own rates, you can calculate in any currency; the tool does not perform currency conversions.
Does the calculator send my data to a server?
No. All calculations run in your browser, and the values you enter are never sent anywhere.
