Step 1: Dimensions of your wall
In the first section, you provide the basic dimensions of the partition you intend to erect. Measure your work area carefully. Enter the total length in the "Wall length (m)" field and the expected height in the "Wall height (m)". Remember to enter values in meters - e.g. for a wall five and a half meters long, enter 5.5.
Step 2: Subtract voids
Walls are rarely a uniform surface. In the "Area of openings (m2)" field, add up the size of all windows, doors and hatches. Measure the width and height of each window, multiply these values together, and then add all the results together. If the wall is full, just leave a zero there.
Step 3: Select Material (Instant Templates)

- Block– configuration for classic ceramic blocks (e.g. Porotherm type, 24 cm wide), commonly used in single-family housing.

Of course, if your material has different dimensions (e.g. you use Silka silicate blocks or large-sized panels), you can manually enter the length and height of a single element in millimeters at any time.
Step 4: Details and optimization
To make the result 100% realistic, complete the last two fields. The first one isFuga (mm). If you are building with traditional mortar, usually enter 10-12 mm. If you use glue from a bag or polyurethane foam, enter 1-3 mm. The second critical field isWaste Stock (%). It is usually recommended to add 5% for straight, long walls and even 10-15% for walls with a lot of small windows, arches or slopes (e.g. gable walls in the attic).

In turn, solid lime-sand blocks or aerated concrete can be cut very easily with a hand or band saw, which means that the waste can be reduced to 3-5%.
- Check the manufacturer's dimensions:The templates we have prepared are based on market standards. However, manufacturers sometimes introduce optimized systems (e.g. tongue and groove) to the market, which may have a slightly different height or length. Always check the exact dimensions on the product data sheet and modify them in the calculator if necessary.
- Don't forget about lintels:When counting openings (doors and windows), the surface on which the lintel beams rest must also be bricked up. The calculator is based on rectangular fields. If you have a complicated gable wall (triangle or trapezoid), it is best to calculate its average height or enter the total area, "cheating" the length and height so that their product gives the real square meters of your block.
What waste percentage should I assume for aerated concrete (Ytong)?
Typically, for straight walls made of aerated concrete, it is enough to add 3-5% of the excess material. This is due to the fact that it is a material that is very easy to cut precisely and generates minimal losses compared to brittle ceramic materials.
Does the application include adhesive mortar (thin-layer joint)?
Of course. In the section regarding material parameters, there is a dedicated field for the grout thickness. For thin-layer mortars, it is enough to enter a value of 1-3 mm, and the system will precisely take this minimum gap into account when generating the final report.
Why does the calculator always round the results up to whole pieces?
