Step 2: Enter the parameters of the selected building material
By default, the tool loads the parameters of a traditional Polish building brick with dimensions of 250 x 120 x 65 mm. However, we know that the building materials market is bursting at the seams with various solutions. If you plan to use clinker, silicates, concrete blocks or porotherm - just take a measure or check the manufacturer's specifications, and then update the length, width and height (in millimeters) in our form.
Step 3: Determine joint thickness and margin of error
Bricks don't hang in the air. They are connected by mortar. The standard joint is usually 10 mm and we set this value at the beginning. However, if you are building a decorative wall and planning wider joints, be sure to take this into account - it has a huge impact on the final amount of material. In the lower right corner of the data entry section, you will find theInventory (Waste)field. Always enter a value greater than zero here (default 5%). Losses always occur during transportation, unloading and cutting of elements at the corners. The stock will protect you from running out of material at the end of the work.

- What about window and door openings?Our form calculates a solid wall. If your project includes huge windows or double balcony doors, simply calculate their area (length x width in meters). Calculate the requirement for a solid wall and then subtract the number of pieces entering the opening area. Example: If you have a door of 2 m² and the tool says that there are 50 pieces per m², you subtract 100 pieces from the final result.
- Manage waste percentage wisely:The default5% stockis the absolute minimum for straight, smooth walls without holes. However, if you are building a house with lots of recesses, windows, doors, corners, and the material is fragile ceramic blocks - feel free to increase this parameter to 8% or even 10%. It is always easier to return the surplus than to stop the team's work.
- The width of the joint is the key to the budget:If you want to save on mortar, make sure that you have a perfectly even starting material. Even blocks allow the joint to be reduced to as much as 2-3 mm (thin-joint gluing). With large wall dimensions, the difference between a 10 mm and 3 mm joint can bring savings of several hundred zlotys on the masonry mixture itself.
- The type of binding is of minimal importance:People often ask whether the type of laying (trail, head, cross) changes the amount of material needed. If the thickness of the wall remains the same, the volume of the ceramics does not change either. How to calculate the material if the wall has windows or doors?
Our system calculates the demand for a solid wall. To include windows or doors, ignore them at first and enter the total dimensions of the wall. Then look at the "Pieces per m²" result. With this value, calculate the window area (e.g. 1.5m x 1m = 1.5m²) and multiply by the number of pieces per m². Subtract the result from the total pool calculated by the software.
What are the default brick dimensions in the form?
The form starts with the entered parameters of a traditional, full Polish ceramic brick, the dimensions of which are 250 mm in length, 120 mm in width and 65 mm in height.
Will the application work for ceramic blocks (e.g. Porotherm) or aerated concrete blocks?
Definitely yes! The mechanism works based on the values you provide. All you need to do is enter the dimensions of your block or block in millimeters in the "Brick Parameters" section, and the system will perfectly calculate the volumes. Then set the wall thickness field according to the thickness of your block in the "Custom" option.
How much percentage of waste (inventory) should I add?
By default we suggest 5%, which is a safe buffer for standard, long and straight walls. However, if the wall is short, has many bends, pillars, gables under the roof (slants) or you use a very brittle material, we recommend increasing the margin of error to about 8-10%.
How do you know how much mortar will cover the entire wall?
The tool uses pure geometric mathematics. Calculates the total volume (cubage) of the constructed wall. Then it calculates the total volume of the ceramic elements only (without joints). By subtracting the volume of the ceramics itself from the volume of the entire wall, we obtain a space that must necessarily be filled with mortar.
What does the wall thickness of "half a brick" and "one brick" mean?
This is a traditional masonry nomenclature. A half-brick thick wall is one in which the material is laid lengthwise (e.g. a traditional partition about 12 cm thick). A "one brick" wall is a wall where the elements are placed crosswise (approx. 25 cm thick). If you are not sure about the binding, you can always select the "Own" thickness option in the form and enter it in centimeters directly from the construction design.
Are the dimensions I enter permanently saved somewhere?
No, the parameters of your specific building are not profiled by us or sold to third parties. The counting process is carried out in full respect of your privacy, so you can easily calculate the cost estimates of your largest investments.
