What is a good response time?
- below 200 ms- result at the level of professional e-athletes,
- 200–250 ms- very good reflexes,
- 250–320 ms- typical result of a healthy adult,
- above 320 ms- slower; the result is influenced by fatigue, age, caffeine and screen (screen lag!).
What affects reaction time?
Age (the fastest reaction is around 20-25 years of age), fatigue and lack of sleep, alcohol, as well as equipment - a 60 Hz monitor adds up to 10-20 ms more to the result than a 144 Hz screen. Therefore, compare results on the same device.
Reaction time - norms and what does your result mean
The average simple reaction time to a visual stimulus in an adult is200–270 ms. Results below 200 ms are very good (typical for young players and athletes), 270-350 ms - average, above 350 ms - slower (make sure you are not testing tired). World records in laboratory conditions are approximately 120–150 ms; a result below ~100 ms on the click test usually means... a "blind" click before the stimulus.

What affects reflexes and can they be improved
Reaction time is worsened by: lack of sleep (even +20–50 ms), alcohol, eyestrain and age (after 30 years of age approximately +2–4 ms per decade). Improves: regular sleep, caffeine (moderate), training - esports players and athletes react 10-20% faster than average. Test the average of at least 5 trials - a single result is a lottery. Types of reaction time - simple, choice, exploratory
"Reaction time" is not one number - in psychology there are several types that increase with the complexity of the decision. Our test measures the simplest of them.

That is why, for example, pressing the brake in a car (selection response + leg movement) takes much longer than the 250 ms from the click test. The more options to consider, the longer the decision takes - this is the so-called Hick's law.
Where quick reflexes really count
- Behind the wheel- at 90 km/h the car travels 25 m per second; every 100 ms of reaction is an additional 2.5 m of braking distance. Fatigue and the phone extend this time dramatically.
- In sports and e-sports- in games, martial arts or table tennis, a difference of several dozen milliseconds determines the advantage; players react 10-20% faster than average.
- At work and occupational health and safety- machine operators, pilots and dispatchers are sometimes tested for reaction time, because a decrease in vigilance actually increases the risk of error.
If you want to work on your reflexes, combineregular sleep(lack of sleep can add several dozen ms),warm-up before the test(the first attempt is usually the slowest),reaction exercises(games, applications, catching falling ruler) andmoderate caffeine.
