How to Use the eBay Fee Calculator

The eBay Fee Calculator runs in your browser and answers what sellers usually want to know: how much of an order is taken by fees and how much is left for payout. Just fill in three fields.

• Price – the amount the buyer pays for the item (default $100).
• Shipping paid by buyer – the delivery cost added to the order (default $8).
• Final value fee (FVF) % – the commission rate eBay charges (default 13.6).

As soon as you enter values, you see three results: 'FVF fee + order fee', 'Order fee', and 'Payout'. You don't need to send anything or create an account; the calculation happens on your device.

How does the math work step by step? First, shipping is added to the price because fees are charged on the total order amount. With the default values: $100 + $8 = $108. The FVF is calculated on that amount using the rate you enter, and then the order fee is added. For the default settings, the result is $15.09 total (FVF fee + order fee), of which $0.40 is the order fee, and $92.91 remains as payout.

The tool displays US dollars ($). If you want to calculate in another currency, just enter your own amounts and rates—the calculator treats them the same way, and you read the result in the currency you provided.

How to Change the FVF Rate for Your Category

The final value fee rate depends on the category, marketplace, and listing type, so the fee field is editable. The default value of 13.6 is a starting point, not the only possible rate.

1. Check the current fee schedule for your category and selling country on eBay—rates change and vary between product groups.
2. Enter your rate in the final value fee field. You can use a decimal value, for example 12.9.
3. Fill in the price and shipping cost—the result updates immediately.

Remember that the fee is calculated on the sum of the item price and the shipping paid by the buyer, not just the item price. If your category has several rates, calculate the variant that best fits your situation—the tool accepts one rate for the entire order.

How the eBay Order Fee Works

In addition to the percentage fee, eBay charges an order fee. This is a fixed amount added to the commission, regardless of how expensive the item is. In the calculator, you see it as a separate line item, and its amount is fixed in the tool—there is no separate field where you can change it.

How does it work in practice? You calculate in this order:

• order amount = price + shipping paid by buyer,
• FVF fee = order amount × FVF rate ÷ 100,
• deduction = FVF fee + order fee,
• payout = order amount − deduction.

With the default settings, the order amount is $108, the FVF fee plus order fee is $15.09, and the order fee alone is $0.40. Because the order fee is shown separately, you can see what part of the deduction does not depend on the item price.

How to Interpret the 'Payout' Result

'Payout' is the amount left from the order after subtracting the FVF fee and order fee. With the default values: $108 − $15.09 = $92.91.

Treat this result as a starting point, not final profit. It shows how much of a given order will not be withheld by the fees considered in the calculator. To know your real earnings, subtract your own costs from this amount: buying or making the item, packaging, postage, payment processor fees, return costs, and any promotions.

If you sell multiple items, calculate several orders separately and add the results—one calculation covers one order. Keep in mind that deductions can differ by category, so the same item in two categories can produce different 'Payout' amounts.

Calculator Limitations and What It Doesn't Include

The eBay Fee Calculator focuses on the FVF fee and order fee, so the result is an estimate. The tool does not know your fee schedule or individual terms, does not check current eBay rates, and does not connect to your seller account.
