Calculation formulas and rules
Adding VAT (net → gross)
VAT = net × (rate / 100) gross = net + VAT
VAT deduction (gross → net)
VAT = gross × (rate / (100 + rate)) net = gross − VAT
Example of the formula 23 %
net = 1000 → VAT = 1000 × 0.23 = 230 → gross = 1230 gross = 1230 → VAT = 1230 × 0.23/123 = 230 → net = 1000
Application examples
Example 1 - adding VAT
Assumption:net amount PLN 2,000, VAT rate 23%
- VAT = 2000 × 0.23 = PLN 460
- Gross = 2000 + 460 = PLN 2,460
Example 2 - VAT deduction
Assumption:gross amount PLN 2,460, VAT rate 23%
- VAT = 2460 × (23 / 123) ≈ PLN 460
- Net = 2460 − 460 = PLN 2000
Example 3 – reduced rate 8%
Assumption:net PLN 1000, VAT 8%
- VAT = 1000 × 0.08 = PLN 80
- Gross = PLN 1,080
Example 4 - reduced rate 5%
Assumption:gross PLN 1,260, VAT 5%
- VAT = 1260 × (5 / 105) = PLN 60
- Net = PLN 1,200

FAQ
Why are there different VAT rates?
Reduced rates (8% and 5%) apply to selected socially desirable goods and services, e.g. books, food, medical services. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}
Is 0% VAT the same as VAT exemption?
No. The 0% rate means that VAT is charged on the invoice, but the tax is zero - the entrepreneur can deduct VAT from the purchase. Exemption means no VAT and no right to deduction if the statutory conditions are met.
How to calculate VAT on the gross amount?
Use the formula: VAT = gross × (rate / (100 + rate)). In the calculator it works automatically.
Can I use a custom bid?
Yes - the calculator allows you to enter any rate, e.g. for EU countries or special cases.
What is such a calculator useful for?
Helps with issuing invoices, pricing offers, determining sales prices with or without VAT, analyzing margins and comparing price options.
