How are shopping Sundays determined?
The Act designates commercial Sundays according to fixed rules:
- the last Sunday ofJanuary, April, June and August,
- one Sunday beforeEaster,
- two subsequent Sundays beforeChristmas(Christmas Eve).
Therefore, the number and dates of shopping Sundays change every year - they depend on when Easter falls and how the last Sundays of the months are distributed.
What stores are open on non-trading Sundays?
The trade ban does not apply to all establishments. The following may be open every Sunday:
- gas stations and shops there,
- bakeries, confectioneries and ice cream parlors (if this product predominates),
- flower shops,
- pharmacies and pharmacy points,
- shops at railway stations, airports and ports,
- post offices,
- shops where the owner himself stands behind the counter,
- the so-called franchised convenience stores if the owner works.
Additionally, the ban does not apply to e-commerce - online shopping can be done 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
