Other tools you may find usefulIKE or IKZE – which is more profitable?
Both accounts are third pillar retirement accounts with tax benefits, but they work differently.IKEexempts profits from the 19% Belka tax when withdrawn after the age of 60.IKZEgives you an annual tax refund (payment × your PIT threshold, i.e. 12% or 32%), but withdrawals after the age of 65 are taxed at a lump sum of 10%.
Deposit limits 2026
- IKE:PLN 28,260,
- IKZE:PLN 11,304 (persons not running a business),
- IKZE for business:16 PLN 956.
IKE or IKZE - the most important differences
| Feature | IKE | IKZE |
|---|---|---|
| Tax benefit | no Belka tax when withdrawing after the age of 60 | deduction of payments from income now+ no Belka |
| Tax on withdrawal | 0% | lump sum 10% (after 65 years of age) |
| Annual payment limit | 3× projected average salary | 1.2× (full-time job) or 1.8× (business) |
| Early withdrawal | refund with Belka tax on profit | entire refund added to income (PIT!) |
Rule of thumb:IKZE is more profitable the higher the PIT you pay- at a rate of 32%, each payment returns almost 1/3 in the annual settlement; at 12% the benefit is smaller, and the 10% lump sum eats away at it at the end. IKE is more flexible with earlier access to money. You can haveboth accounts at once- these are two independent limits.
The power of time - why it's worth starting now
With a deposit of PLN 500/month. and a rate of return of 6% per year after 20 years you have approximately231 thousand. PLN(payments: 120 thousand), and after 30 years - approx.502 thousand. PLN(payments: PLN 180,000). A decade earlier = more than twice the capital: it's compound interest, not magic. Test your own amounts in the calculator and combine your retirement savings with the forecast from thepension calculator.
How much does the IKZE relief actually return - numerical examples 2026
The benefit from IKZE is the payment multiplied by your PIT threshold - you get it back in the annual settlement. Below is the maximum payment for 2026 (PLN 11,304 for a full-time employee) and the amount that will be returned to the account at different tax rates:
| Your PIT threshold | IKZE payment | Tax refund (annually) | Real cost of payment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12% | PLN 11,304 | approx. PLN 1,356 | approx. PLN 9,948 |
| 32% | PLN 11,304 | approx. PLN 3,617 | approx. PLN 7,687 |
| 32% (activity, limit PLN 16,956) | PLN 16,956 | approx. PLN 5,426 | approx. PLN 11,530 |
Refund, preferably immediatelypay back to IKE or IKZE- then the relief starts to pay for itself. Remember the "other side": when withdrawing after the age of 65 IKZE is covered by a lump sum of 10%, so the real benefit = the difference between your PIT threshold now and 10% later. For a taxpayer from the 32% threshold, it is still a large profit, for a 12% taxpayer - a small profit, but there is also no Belka tax on profits.
Where to open IKE and IKZE and what to pay attention to
Both accounts are a tax "package" that you can fill with various products - the risk and costs depend on it:
- Brokerage account (IKE/IKZE-brokerage)- independent investing in stocks, ETFs and bonds; lowest costs, but requires knowledge.
- Investment funds (TFI)- ready-made portfolios, convenient, but with a management fee (usually 1-2% per year, which significantly eats up the result for 30 years).
- Bank account / IKE deposit- safe, but the real profit after inflation can be close to zero.
- Insurance IKE/IKZE (UFK)- often the highest fees; read the cost table before signing.
When choosing, look attotal annual costand the freedom to change strategy. The third pillar (IKE/IKZE) isvoluntary and private- it is a complement to the mandatory ZUS and employee PPK, not their replacement. The effect of your payments is combined with the forecast from thepension calculator.
