How to upload a photo and signature and set the crop

The tool prepares two parts of the application: a face photo and a signature. Everything happens in your browser, and uploaded images are not sent anywhere.

1. In the Face photo field, upload an image file with a photo.
2. In the Signature scan or photo field, upload a file with your signature.
3. In the crop preview, drag the crop and use the zoom slider to adjust its size. The photo crop uses the aspect ratio set by the photo dimensions, and the signature crop uses the signature dimensions.
4. If needed, change the values in the width and height fields and the allowed file size in KB.
5. When both files are uploaded, click Prepare files.

Order matters: if you change the photo or signature dimensions, the image reloads and the crop you set earlier resets to its starting position. So enter the target dimensions first, then adjust the crop and use the zoom slider.

Where to get dimensions and the KB range for an RRB application

The values shown in the tool when you open the page are just a starting point. They come from a general set of settings, and you can change them freely. The numbers that apply to you are in the current notification or form instructions — those decide whether the file is accepted.

From the document, check the following in particular:

• the required photo width and height,
• the allowed photo file size range in KB, meaning the lower and upper limits,
• the required signature width and height,
• the allowed signature file size range in KB.

Enter those numbers in the matching fields. The tool does not connect to the internet and does not check whether your settings match the notification — comparing the document with the values you enter is up to you.

How compression of the photo and signature to the KB range works

When you click Prepare files, the tool scales the photo to the width and height you entered and the signature to its own dimensions, then compresses both images so their size fits the KB range you specified.

• The smaller the upper size limit, the stronger the compression and the more fine detail may disappear.
• It is best to upload the signature as a clear, high-contrast file — then even stronger compression does not turn it into a blurry smudge.
• You do not need to calculate anything by hand: you enter the lower and upper size limits, and the tool adjusts the result.
• Both elements are created from the images you upload, so the quality of the source directly affects the result.

If the result does not look good, improve the source material — for example, take a sharper photo of the signature in better light — and prepare the files again.

Limitations: what the tool does not check

The tool handles dimensions and file size, not content. It will not judge whether the photo shows your face in the right pose, whether the background is appropriate, or whether the signature is legible and written in the required way. You must check all of that yourself in the current notification.

• It does not verify that your settings match the notification requirements — you enter the values yourself.
• It does not check whether the file will be accepted by a specific railway form.
• It does not improve the quality of the photo or signature — it does not sharpen, remove shadows, or reconstruct missing parts.
• It does not send images online or save them on any server — processing happens on your device.

The quality of the result depends on the source: resolution, sharpness, even lighting, and contrast. You cannot get a sharp, legible signature from a very small or blurry file. Also check that your file can be opened as an image at all — unusual formats may not open.

Most common file rejections in railway applications

Most file problems come from a few recurring reasons. Before you submit your application, review this list.

• Wrong dimensions. The photo or signature has a different width or height than the notification specifies. Enter the exact values and set the crop after changing them.
• File size outside the range. The file is too large or too small. Set the lower and upper limits according to the notification and prepare both elements again.
• Blurry signature. A low-resolution scan or a photo blurred by phone movement. Make a clear scan or take a photo in even light, without a shadow from your hand.
• Dark or dirty signature background. The signature should be clearly visible on a plain, light background, without paper creases or shadows.
• Crop cut in the wrong place. A cropped face, ears, chin, or part of the signature. Adjust the crop in the preview before preparing the files.
• A file that cannot be read. Damaged or unusual image files. Open the image in your own program, save it again, and upload it again.
• Settings from an old notification. Requirements can change, and values you entered earlier may no longer be valid. Always compare them with the current document.

After preparing the files, open them and look at them enlarged. You will then see whether the signature is legible and the photo has no unwanted cropping.
