How to Draw a Signature With Your Finger or Mouse

The Signature Maker has two modes. The first is Draw Signature — useful when you're working with a mouse, a finger on a phone screen, or a stylus. After choosing this mode, you'll see a white drawing area shaped like a horizontal band.

1. Choose the line color and thickness.
2. Draw your signature in the box — you can start with your first name and add a decorative flourish at the end.
3. If the line comes out crooked, use the Undo button, and if you want to start over, use Clear.
4. Set the size limit, maximum width, and format, then click Prepare Signature.

The drawing area is horizontal with a 16 to 6 aspect ratio, and its width on screen is limited. It fits a moderately wide signature, so very elaborate, long signatures are better uploaded as a scan or photo.

Drawing works with a finger, mouse, and stylus. When you drag across the field, the page doesn't scroll, so you don't have to worry about the view shifting while you make a stroke. You also don't need to draw the signature at the final scale — when preparing the file, the signature is resized to the selected maximum width.

Uploading a Signature Scan or Photo and Cleaning the Background

The second mode is Upload Scan / Photo. You choose one image file: a printer scan, a phone photo of your signature, or a cropped section of another document. It needs to be an image — a PDF or text file won't be accepted.

Below the file selector, you'll find the Remove scan background and noise option, checked by default. The tool then tries to replace the paper background with a uniform color and remove small blemishes, so the signature looks cleaner when pasted into a document. If you want to faithfully preserve the paper and its texture, you can uncheck the option.

Cleaning quality depends mostly on the photo itself. These work best:

• photos taken in even light, without shadows from your hand or a lamp,
• signatures made with a dark pen on white, smooth paper,
• crops where the signature fills most of the frame, without a desk around it.

If the photo is blurry, very underexposed, or the signature overlaps lines and stamps, automatic cleaning may not be enough, and the image will need to be edited in another graphics program.

Color, Line Thickness, Undo, and Clearing Strokes

You set the line color and thickness before drawing. There are two colors to choose from: black, which is the default, and blue. Black works for most documents, while blue can be useful when you want to distinguish your signature from black print or when a form specifically asks for blue ink.

You adjust line thickness with a slider from 1 to 8; the default is 3. A thin line looks elegant, but when the signature is scaled down significantly, it can blur. A thicker line remains legible even at a small size, such as on a small phone screen.

Two buttons help you correct the drawing:

• Undo — removes the last stroke you made if your hand slips or the line doesn't go as you wanted.
• Clear — removes the entire drawing and lets you start with an empty field.

It's worth preparing several versions and evaluating them from a distance. A signature that looks good zoomed in can look completely different when scaled down to a few hundred pixels wide, which is why an unset crop and a line that is too thin are the most common reasons for disappointment with the result.

KB Size Limit, Maximum Width, and JPG/PNG Choice

Three settings determine how large the finished file will be and what format it will use.

The text on the button changes with the size limit, so you can immediately see what file size in kilobytes the file will be adjusted to. That way, you don't have to guess whether the result will fit the form's requirements.

Choose the format deliberately. JPG saves the signature on a white background and usually produces a smaller file — a good choice for documents and forms where the signature will simply sit on a white page. PNG keeps a transparent background, so the signature can be placed over a colored header, photo, or other graphic without a white rectangle around the letters.

Maximum width determines how large the signature will be. The default value is enough for most documents, but if the signature will go on a large banner or cover, it's worth increasing it. For a spot next to a form field, much less is enough.

Tool Limits: What It Doesn't Check or Calculate

The Signature Maker prepares an image of your signature and nothing more. It's worth knowing what not to expect from it.

• It doesn't sign documents. You can't upload a contract or PDF here — you get an image file of your signature that you place in the document yourself.
• It doesn't verify who signed. It doesn't verify identity, compare the signature with a sample, or issue any confirmation. It does not replace a qualified or trusted signature.
• It doesn't keep history or store files. There is no account, cloud, or list of previous signatures. You work on one signature at a time, and you decide where to save the finished file.
• It accepts one image file at a time. You can't combine several scans into one signature or upload a PDF document.
• It won't fix a poor source. A blurry photo, shadow on paper, or signature on lined or grid paper — in these cases, the result may need additional editing in a graphics program.
• It won't check the recipient's requirements. Every service and every device has its own rules for format, dimensions, and file size limit. If the signature is going to Amazon, Etsy, eBay, Shopify, Vinted, or TikTok, for example, check the current requirements in that platform's help center yourself.
• It has a limited drawing area. A very long, wide signature may not fit comfortably — in that case, it's better to upload a scan or photo.

You set the size limit and maximum width yourself, so before saving the file, make sure they match the place where the signature will go.
