How to Use: Draw a Signature or Upload a Scan

The tool has two modes that you switch between at the top of the page: drawing a signature and uploading a finished scan or photo.

• Draw a signature — the default mode. You sign in a white field with a 16:6 aspect ratio and a width of up to 640 pixels, with a light dashed border. You choose the color: black or blue, and the line thickness from 1 to 8. If you do not like the result, use 'Undo' or 'Clear' and try again. The signature looks just as good on a phone as on a large monitor.
• Upload a scan / photo — you select one image file from a scan or photo of your signature. By default, the 'Remove scan background and noise (white background, clear ink)' option turns the background white and cleans up small smudges. You can uncheck it if you want to keep the scan unchanged.

Below, you set the size limit, maximum width, and file format, then click the button to prepare the signature and download the finished file. In drawing mode, you do not need to upload any file.

How to Choose the KB Limit and Maximum Width

Two settings determine the size of the finished file: the size limit and the maximum signature width. It is best to change them together.

• Size limit (KB) — 20 KB by default, the value most often required in forms. The tool also lets you enter other values, from 2 to 500 KB, if a given service specifies a different cap.
• Maximum width (px) — 300 pixels by default with a limit up to 10 KB, and 500 pixels with a higher limit. A smaller width is the simplest way to make the file lighter, while a larger width gives sharper lines but increases the file size.

First, check how many kilobytes and what width the form you are sending the signature to allows. If there are no guidelines, stay with 20 KB and 300 pixels — that signature is readable both on screen and when the document is printed.

JPG or PNG — White or Transparent Background

You choose the format from the list, and with it you decide the signature background.

If you upload a photo or scan, JPG usually lets you save more detail in a smaller file. Choose PNG when you do not want a white rectangle around the signature — at the same size limit, however, that file may require a smaller width.

Limitations and What the Tool Does Not Check

The tool prepares a signature file, but it does not replace checking the requirements of a specific form or institution. Keep this in mind:

• It does not check whether the finished file meets your system's requirements — confirm the allowed size, format, and number of pages in the instructions on the service or agency website.
• It does not assess the readability of the signature or whether it matches your sample. The result depends on how evenly you sign on the screen or how clear the photo you upload is.
• It does not create a qualified or trusted signature, and it does not sign a document in a legally binding way — it is a regular image of a signature to upload or paste.
• It accepts one image file at a time and does not support PDF documents, text files, or multiple files in one attempt.
• It will not recreate your signature from a sample or correct the slant of your handwriting when you draw. Background removal works best on a uniform, light background — if the photo has a shadow, review the result before sending it.

Check three things yourself: whether the file opens for the recipient, whether the signature remains readable when printed, and whether the form requires a specific print resolution (DPI). The tool affects the dimensions and size of the file, not the print resolution information.

How to Keep a Signature Readable in a Very Small File

With a 20 KB limit, every pixel counts. A few simple habits keep a signature clear even after heavy downsizing:

1. Draw larger letters. Thin, small handwriting blurs when it is reduced, while a large, confident stroke looks better than flourishes.
2. Set the line thickness to 3 or more. A thicker stroke keeps its shape when the file is saved at a small size.
3. Turn on background removal for an uploaded scan or photo — a white background and clean ink mean less data to save.
4. Crop tightly. Take the photo so the signature fills most of the frame, because wide margins only add to the file size.
5. Reduce the width when needed. If the file exceeds the limit, lower the width instead of choosing a higher limit.
6. Choose JPG when you do not need transparency. A white background is then easier to save in a light file.
7. View the finished signature zoomed in before sending it, because small details may be more visible on one screen than another.
