A longer route on gentle terrain may be similar in time to shorter but steep variants. A long distance favors a steady pace and constant stops every 60-90 minutes. Pay attention to water scores and emergency exit options.
4) Winter: 10 km, +500 m, −500 m, winter terrain, 20 min breaks
Even with small elevation gains, snow and ice can add a significant time overhead. Crampons, grips or rackets improve safety, but the pace still slows down. Select the winter profile in the calculator and leave more time before dark.
