How does the high school credits calculator work?

The high school points calculator calculates your recruitment result for secondary schools (secondary schools, technical schools, first-cycle vocational schools) exactly according to the rules set out in the regulation of the Minister of National Education. In recruitment for the 2026/2027 school year, you can earn a maximum of200points: 100 for the eighth-grade exam and 100 for the certificate and additional achievements.

Points for the eighth-grade exam (max 100 points)

Percentage results from the eighth-grade exam are converted into recruitment points according to the following weights:

  • Polish language- result in % × 0.35 (max 35 points),
  • mathematics- result in % × 0.35 (max 35 points),
  • modern foreign language- result in % × 0.30 (max 30 points).

Example: 78% in Polish, 64% in mathematics and 85% in English is 27.3 + 22.4 + 25.5 =75.2 points.

Points for grades in the certificate (max 72 points)

Points are awarded for grades in four subjects: Polish language, mathematics and two subjects indicated by a given school in the recruitment regulations (e.g. foreign language and geography in a geography class):

  • excellent (6) -18 points
  • very good (5) -17 points
  • good (4) -14 points
  • satisfactory (3) —8 points
  • passing (2) —2 points

Additional points (max 28 points)

  • certificate with distinction(red stripe) — 7 points,
  • volunteeringor other social activity entered on the certificate - 3 points,
  • competitions and achievementsmentioned on the certificate (curatorships, olympiads, sports competitions) - a total of up to 18 points.

How many points do you need to get into high school?

Point thresholds are set by each school separately and change every year - they depend on the number of candidates and their results. As a guide: for the best high schools in large cities you need170–195points, for popular classes 140–170 points, and many good schools accept candidates with 100–140 points. Check the thresholds from the previous year on the website of your chosen school - our calculator will show you how your result compares to these thresholds.

Recruitment schedule for secondary schools 2026

The schedule is set by school boards, but the schedule is similar every year:May–June- submitting applications to schools (electronic system, usually by approximately June 10; bilingual and sports departments earlier),end of June - beginning of July- submitting certificates and certificates of exam results, second half of July- lists of qualified candidates, then confirmation of will (original documents!) and lists of accepted candidates. Those not qualified take part in thesupplementary recruitment in August. Late confirmation of will = falling off the list, keep an eye on the dates of your voivodeship.

School selection strategy - how to arrange a list of preferences

In the system, you usually choose from 3 to even a dozen branches (the limit depends on the city), and the algorithm assigns you tohighest preference for which there were enoughpoints. Safe list layout: 1-2 "dream" branches (last year's threshold is a few points higher than your result), 2-3 realistic ones (threshold ±5 points from your result) and necessarily 1-2 "sure" branches (threshold lower by 15-20 points). Thresholds from previous years can be found on schools' websites and recruitment systems - remember that they fluctuate by 3-10 points every year.

FAQ - frequently asked questions

Does the winner of the school board competition get into high school without credits?
Yes. Winners of provincial or supra-provincial subject competitions as well as winners and finalists of subject olympiads are admitted to the school in the first place, regardless of the number of recruitment points.
Which items in the certificate are scored?
Always Polish and mathematics. The other two subjects are indicated by each school (and often each class/profile separately) in its recruitment regulations - most often it is a foreign language and the major subject of the profile, e.g. biology in the biology and chemistry class.
Does the grade for religion or conduct count towards points?
No. Religion/ethics grade and conduct grade are not converted into recruitment points. However, at least correct behavior is a condition for receiving points for volunteering.
How many points does a certificate with a red stripe give?
A primary school leaving certificate with distinction gives 7 recruitment points. The distinction is awarded to a student with an average grade of at least 4.75 and at least very good behavior.
When are the 2026 high school recruitment results?
Lists of qualified candidates are usually published by schools in the second half of July, after the first stage of recruitment is completed. The exact schedule is set by the education superintendent in each voivodeship - check the dates in your recruitment system (e.g. Vulcan, PCSS Recruitment).
