How to Use the Mercado Libre Profit Calculator

The Mercado Libre profit calculator shows how much you keep from a single sale after subtracting commission, shipping cost, and product cost. Enter your data in four fields and instantly see two numbers: Fees and Profit. The calculations run in your browser, so you do not need to send or save anything.

  1. In the Price (MXN) field, enter the price at which you sell the product. The default is 899.
  2. In the Commission % field, enter the rate the platform charges. The default is 14.5 - you can change it.
  3. In the Envío field, enter the shipping cost charged to you for an order. The default is 85 MXN.
  4. In the COGS field, enter the cost of goods - how much you paid for the product or to make it. The default is 420 MXN.
  5. Read the results: Fees and Profit.

Example with the default values: commission on the 899 MXN price is 130.355 MXN, and with 85 MXN shipping it gives fees of 215.36 MXN. Subtract fees and the 420 MXN cost of goods from the price, and profit is 263.65 MXN.

How to Set Commission and Shipping Costs in MXN

Commission and shipping are the two costs that most often determine whether a sale is worthwhile. In the calculator, both values are only a starting point - enter the ones that match your situation.

Mercado Libre rates depend on the category, listing type, sales program, and individual arrangements. So before calculating, check the platform's current fee schedule and your seller dashboard, then enter your percentage rate in the Commission % field.

Shipping cost (envío) can also vary: it depends on weight, dimensions, delivery location, and who pays the fee. Enter the amount you actually pay to ship one package.

  • Want to calculate a conservative scenario? Enter a higher commission and higher shipping.
  • Want to check the situation where the customer covers shipping? Set Envío to no cost and see how profit changes.
  • All fields are editable, so you can compare several scenarios one after another.
  • The amounts are in Mexican pesos (MXN), but when you enter your own rates, you can calculate in any currency - just keep to one unit throughout the calculation.

How to Calculate COGS and Sales Margin

COGS is the cost of goods sold - simply put, what the product you ship to the customer costs you. You usually include the purchase or production, unit packaging, and other costs assigned directly to one item. The default value in the calculator is 420 MXN, and you can change it to your own.

The more accurately you calculate COGS, the more realistic the result will be. If you import goods from abroad, remember transport and customs on your side - that also raises the unit cost.

The calculator shows fees and profit, and you can calculate margin from the result yourself: margin = profit / price x 100%. For the default values: 263.65 / 899 x 100% = about 29.3%. Margin tells you what share of the price stays with you, and it is easier to compare between products than the profit amount alone.

When profit is close to zero, raise the price or buy cheaper - otherwise every unit works for costs, not for you.

How to Interpret Fees and Net Profit

The tool returns two values, and it is worth knowing exactly what they include.

FieldDefault valueWhat it means
Price899 MXNthe sale price on which commission is calculated
Commission %14.5the percentage rate charged on the price
Envío85 MXNshipping cost added to fees
COGS420 MXNcost of goods subtracted from the price

Fees are the percentage commission on the price plus the shipping cost: fees = price x commission% / 100 + shipping. For the default values, this gives 215.36 MXN.

Profit is price minus fees minus cost of goods: profit = price - (price x commission% / 100 + shipping) - COGS. For the default values, this is 263.65 MXN.

Keep in mind that the profit from the calculator is the amount left after subtracting commission, shipping, and cost of goods - before taxes and other fees. When comparing products, look at both the profit amount and the share of the price it represents, because a cheap product with a small profit can easily turn into a loss after one return.

Limitations: Taxes, Mercado Pago, Variable Rates, and What the Tool Does Not Calculate

Treat the result as a starting point for your decision, not as a final settlement. The calculator only calculates what you enter, and only within the scope described by the fields.

  • It does not include taxes - whether value-added tax, income tax, or other settlements on your side.
  • It does not add Mercado Pago fees or other platform costs beyond the commission and shipping you enter yourself.
  • It does not know current rates or fee schedules. The default values are estimates, so check the current fee schedule and enter your own rates.
  • It does not convert currencies or use exchange rates. You calculate in one currency, by default MXN.
  • It does not account for individual seller terms, discounts, returns, claims, packaging costs beyond COGS, or fixed costs such as accounting or warehousing.
  • It will not calculate margin, return on investment, or break-even point - it shows only fees and profit from one sale.

The result is therefore an estimate wherever taxes, additional fees, returns, or variable rates come into play. The calculations run locally in your browser and are not sent anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate profit from a Mercado Libre sale?

Enter the sale price, commission rate, shipping cost, and cost of goods. The calculator subtracts commission, shipping, and COGS from the price, then shows fees and profit from one sale. For the default values, this comes to 215.36 MXN in fees and 263.65 MXN in profit.

What commission should I enter in the profit calculator?

Enter the one that applies to your category and sales terms - check the platform's current fee schedule and your seller dashboard. The default is 14.5%, but that is only a starting value you can change.

Does the calculator include taxes and Mercado Pago fees?

No. The tool calculates only the percentage commission on the price, shipping cost, and cost of goods that you enter. Taxes and other fees must be added separately.

Will the tool calculate margin and break-even point?

No, it shows only fees and profit from one sale. You can calculate margin yourself with this formula: margin = profit / price x 100%.

Can I calculate in a currency other than MXN?

Yes. By default everything is in Mexican pesos, but the fields are editable - by entering your own amounts, you can calculate in any currency. The important thing is to keep to one unit throughout the calculation.

Is the data I enter sent anywhere?

No, the calculations run in your browser. Just enter the values and read the results - you do not need to send or save anything.

Rates are approximate - check Mercado Libre's current fee schedule and your own costs before deciding.
