What are fertile days and why does it work?
Fertile days are the part of the cycle when there is the greatest chance of fertilization. It usually covers a few days before and shortly after ovulation. Why? Becausesperm can survive in the woman's reproductive tract for several days, and the egg cell after ovulation is capable of fertilization for a relatively short time. From a practical point of view, the best chance of pregnancy is often1-2 days before and on the day of ovulation.
The calculator is based on the input data:date of last period, cycle length, bleeding lengthand (optional)luteal phase length. It then determines ovulation and the fertile window in the "wide" approach, i.e.5 days before ovulation to 1 day after ovulation. This is an intentionally safe range because biology can be variable.

Why is the luteal phase crucial?

Therefore, the calculator determines ovulation "from the end of the cycle":ovulation = cycle length − luteal phase length.
If you do not know your luteal phase, you can leave the default value (e.g. 14 days), but for irregular cycles, better results are obtained by specifying this value.

This makes it easier to plan and quickly understand "where you are" in the cycle.
But remember: the calculator is based on assumptions. If your cycles are irregular, you may ovulate earlier or later. Then it is worth combining the tool with observations: ovulation tests (LH), temperature measurement, cervical mucus assessment or symptom monitoring.

Implantation is the implantation of the embryo in the uterine mucosa. Gender planning - the Shettles method (curiosity, no guarantee)
Many people encounter the so-called Shettles method. It assumes that "Y" sperm are faster but have a shorter lifespan, and "X" sperm are slower but more durable. In practice, the calculator may show:
- Girl- trying a few days before ovulation (e.g. 2-3 days earlier).
- Boy– trying close to ovulation (e.g. the day before and on the day of ovulation).
However,is not a reliable method. Treat it as a curiosity and an element of fun, not a "guaranteed plan".
Forecast of next cycles – what is it for?
A one-time calculation is fine, but the greatest value comes from planning ahead. Therefore, in the results you can seeupcoming 3cycles with designated fertile days and ovulation. It's convenient if you want to plan a vacation, a visit, more intense efforts or simply understand the rhythm better.

Is the fertile days calculator accurate?
It's as precise as possible within the data you provide, but it's still a statistical model. You will achieve the greatest accuracy if you have regular cycles and a correctly set luteal phase length.
What if I have irregular periods?
In irregular cycles, ovulation may occur differently. Then treat the calculator as an "indicative map", not an oracle. LH tests, temperature, and mucus monitoring may be helpful.
Why does the fertile window start 5 days before ovulation?
Because sperm can survive for several days. A wide window allows for biological variability to be taken into account and provides practical planning scope.
In what situations can ovulation be delayed?
The most common reasons are stress, illness, trip, intensive training, change in sleep, large fluctuations in body weight or hormonal disorders. Sometimes the shift is small, sometimes significant.
Can I use this calculator for contraception?
No. The "Calendar" has too high a risk of error. If you need effective contraception, choose the methods recommended by your doctor.
