This calculator allows you to quickly estimate how many calories you burn while cycling. You select the speed (km/h) or power (watts) mode, enter your body weight and riding time, and the tool provides the total number of kcal and fuel consumption per minute. For daily training, longer trips, indoors on the trainer and unit comparisons.
What exactly does this tool calculate
The calculator provides two key values:total caloriesfor the time entered andcalories per minute, which make it easier to compare workouts of different lengths. In speed mode, it additionally showsthe applied MET valuecorresponding to the riding intensity.
In speed mode we use km/h → MET mapping, which works well on flat routes and in the city. In power mode we use average power (W), which is practical on the trainer and in training with a power meter. Both modes are convenient and fast - you choose the one for which you have data.
Input. How to enter values
- Body weight (kg)- Your current weight, preferably from the morning weigh-in. It affects the result linearly.
- Driving time- hours and minutes. The minimum time that makes sense is a few minutes; you can even enter a long block, e.g. 3 hours.
- Speed mode- enter average speed in km/h from the odometer or application.
- Power Mode- Enter the average power in watts from your meter or trainer.
When you click "Calculate", you get a clear summary and - if necessary - you can change parameters to compare different scenarios.
How we count. Simplified description of the
algorithm The speed modeuses the MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) value. MET increases with speed and describes energy expenditure relative to rest. After assigning MET to your speed, we calculate calories:

Then we calculate:kcal = MET × mass(kg) × time(hours). Additionally, we showkcal/min = kcal ÷ time(min).
Power modeis based on the mechanical work performed. The higher the average power and the longer the time, the higher the energy cost. We calculate the result using the average body fitness in cycling to givekcalandkcal/min. This approach is stable on the trainer and in the mountains, where speed can be misleading.

Examples to gain intuition
Recreation in the city: 60 min, 70 kg, 16–18 km/h
The speed in this range corresponds to MET ≈ 6. This gives approximately420 kcalin an hour and approximately7.0 kcal/min. For lower weight or shorter time the result will decrease proportionally.
Continuous training ride: 90 min, 75 kg, 22–24 km/h
MET ≈ 10. Estimated1125 kcalin 1.5 hours, i.e.12.5 kcal/min. If you do the same training at a lighter pace (e.g. 20 km/h), the MET will drop and the result will be significantly lower.
Calm trainer: 60 min at 150 W
At this power, approximately800-820 kcalper hour, i.e.~13-14 kcal/min. For 200 W, the hourly cost will increase to approximately~710–730 kcalfor mechanical work alone, and the final result depends on the assumed efficiency - in practice, differences between people are normal.
Long trip: 3 h, 80 kg, 27 km/h
MET ≈ 12. In three hours that's around2880 kcal, ~16 kcal/min. In real life, the result also depends on the terrain and wind - if the route was undulating, the speed does not reflect the full picture and it is better to use power.

How to interpret the result
- The result is an estimate of. Actual fuel consumption varies depending on wind, climbs, position, clothing and road surface.
- Speed can be deceivingin the mountains and in the wind. Use your power whenever possible.
- Body weight has a large effect on. Update it every few weeks to keep the result accurate.
- kcal/minmakes it easier to compare units and plan nutrition on the route.
- Hydration andnutrition remain crucial on longer rides. The result will help you calculate your carbohydrate needs.

Does the result include "background" (resting) calories?
No. The calculator shows the cost of the ride itself. Your day also has its own resting requirement.
Which mode to choose: speed or power?
You have a power meter or trainer with a reliable watt reading - select a power mode. You only have speed from the meter - select speed mode.
Is the result suitable for diet planning?
Yes, as a starting point. Remember individual differences and adjust based on feelings, weight and recovery.
