Other tools you may find usefulDeposit calculator - calculate the real profit from a bank deposit
The deposit calculator allows you to check in a few seconds how much you will really earn on a bank deposit. You enter the deposit amount, interest rate, duration and capitalization, and the tool automatically calculates gross interest, Belka tax, net profit, effective annual rate of return and the impact of inflation on the real value of your money.
Instead of trusting just high-interest advertising slogans, you can see the actual numbers. The deposit calculator takes into account not only the annual interest rate, but also how often interest is charged, how capital gains tax works and how projected inflation eats up part of the profit. Additionally, you will set your own profit goal and immediately see whether a given investment is able to meet it.
How does the bank deposit calculator work
In the basic version, a deposit is a payment of a specific amount for a predetermined period of time, after which the bank pays out the capital plus interest. The deposit calculator uses the compound interest formula, which means that it takes into account the capitalization of interest over the duration of the deposit, and not just simple interest calculated once at the end.
The tool calculates the future value of the deposit based on the initial amount, nominal interest rate, capitalization frequency and duration in months. On this basis, it calculates gross interest, Belka tax, profit on hand, number of deposit days and the effective annual rate of return, which shows how much the deposit actually earned per year.
- Takes into account compound interest and various types of interest capitalization.
- Converts gross and net interest to the nearest cent.
- Shows the effective annual rate of return on the deposit.
- Automatically calculates the number of days of the deposit and the daily and monthly profit.
More than just a regular deposit calculator
This deposit calculator doesn't stop at basic calculations. You also enter the expected inflation and your profit target, and the tool shows what the real purchasing power of the capital will be after the end of the deposit and whether you are achieving the expected net profit.
Additionally, the deposit calculator checks how the result would change if the deposit interest rate was 1 percentage point higher. You also see the capital multiplier, the break-even point in relation to inflation and the number of days your funds work in the bank.
- Analysis of inflation and the real purchasing power of capital.
- Comparison with projected net profit target.
- Simulation of the effect of increasing the interest rate by 1 percentage point.
- Capital multiplier showing how many times your deposit will increase.
How to use the deposit calculator step by step
Using the deposit calculator is intuitive and at the same time allows for very precise calculations. Just a few form fields are enough to get a full picture of the profitability of a bank deposit, including the impact of taxes and inflation.
- Enter the deposit amount. In the "Deposit amount" field, enter the amount you plan to deposit in the bank, for example PLN 10,000 or any other amount. It is from this value that interest and the final value of the deposit will be calculated.
- Set the nominal interest rate.Enter the interest rate quoted by your bank per year, for example 5 or 7.5. This is the nominal interest rate before capitalization and Belka tax.
- Enter the duration of the deposit in months. The deposit calculator operates on the number of months, so enter, for example, 3, 6, 12, 24 or another number. You also have quick buttons with popular periods that make selection easier.
- Select the interest compounding frequency. You can select daily, monthly, quarterly or annual capitalization from the list. The more often interest is charged, the greater the compound interest effect and, consequently, the higher the final profit on the deposit.
- Enter expected inflation. If you want to see the real purchasing power of your money after the deposit ends, enter the estimated inflation per year. The deposit calculator will then calculate how much your funds will be worth in today's zlotys.
- Set a net profit target. In the profit goal field, enter how much you would like to earn net. The tool will compare this goal with the calculated net profit and show whether the deposit meets it or whether a specific amount is still missing.
- Select whether to include Belka's tax.By default, the investment calculator assumes a capital gains tax of 19 percent. If you want to calculate a purely theoretical scenario without tax, you can uncheck this option.
- Click the calculate button. After clicking "Calculate Profit", the tool will display the full set of results: residual value, gross and net interest, tax amount, monthly and daily profit, real rate of return, the impact of inflation, the effect of the additional 1 percentage point and the break-even point.
How to interpret the results in the deposit calculator
After entering the data, the deposit calculator shows several groups of results. This allows you to look at not just one number, but the entire picture of your deposit's profitability, including a graphed breakdown of principal and interest and detailed premium statistics.
Final sum and net profit
In this part you see the amount you will receive after the end of the deposit and the net profit, i.e. interest after deducting Belka's tax. This amount shows how much you will actually earn, assuming that all deposit parameters remain unchanged throughout the entire period.
Gross profit and Belka tax
The deposit calculator calculates gross interest, i.e. profit before tax, and automatically deducts 19 percent of tax. You can see in one place how much the tax office takes and how much the tax reduces the final result of the bank deposit.
Monthly profit, daily profit and number of days
The tool breaks down your net profit into the average amount per month and per day. Additionally, it calculates the exact number of days of the deposit, which allows you to better compare it with other financial products.
Inflation and real rate of return
After taking into account inflation, the deposit calculator shows the real purchasing power of the final amount and how much zloty you lose on inflation. You also see the real annual rate of return, which tells you whether your savings are actually growing faster than prices in the economy.
Achieving the expected profit
If you set your net profit goal, the deposit calculator will show whether it has been achieved. If not, you will see the exact amount that is missing, making it easier to decide whether it is worth increasing the deposit amount or looking for a deposit with a better interest rate.
+1% effect and break-even point
An additional function simulates how much more you would earn if the deposit interest rate was 1 percentage point higher. You'll also see the break-even point, which shows what rate of return is required to at least offset the impact of inflation after tax.
Example calculations using the deposit calculator
The table below shows illustrative results for several scenarios. In practice, it is best to enter your own values, but these examples help you quickly understand how the amount, interest rate and duration affect the yield on a bank deposit.
| Deposit amount | Interest rate | Period | Capitalization | Estimated net profit* | Effective annual rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PLN 10,000 | 5% | 12 months | monthly | approx. PLN 400 - 420 | approx. 4 - 4.2% net |
| PLN 20,000 | 6% | 6 months | quarterly | approx. PLN 480 - 520 | approx. 4.5 - 5% net |
| PLN 50,000 | 4.5% | 24 months | annual | approx. PLN 3,400 - 3,700 | approx. 3.3 - 3.6% net |
| PLN 15,000 | 7% | 3 months | daily | approx. - PLN 220 | approx. 5 - 6% net |
The results in the table are rounded and are indicative. The exact values depend on the specific parameters of the deposit, the method of calculating interest in a given bank and any rounding used for tax purposes. The deposit calculator calculates them precisely based on the data you provide.
Frequently asked questions about the deposit calculator
Does the deposit calculator take into account Belka's tax
Yes, by default the deposit calculator calculates gross interest and then subtracts 19 percent of capital gains tax. Thanks to this, the net profit you see in the results corresponds to what actually goes to your account after the deposit ends.
How capitalization affects the investment profit
The more often compounding occurs, the greater the compound interest effect. This means that the interest added during the term of the deposit begins to work for itself, which increases the final result. The deposit calculator allows you to compare daily, monthly, quarterly and annual capitalization at the same interest rate.
Why take inflation into account in the deposit calculator
The nominal profit on a deposit only looks good on paper if inflation is not taken into account. In practice, what matters is how much your money will be worth in the future. Therefore, the deposit calculator converts the final amount into today's purchasing power and shows the loss caused by inflation.
What is the difference between the effective annual rate of return and the nominal interest rate
The nominal interest rate is the value given by the bank on an annual basis, without taking into account the specific duration of the deposit or capitalization. The effective annual rate of return shows how much you actually earned per year based on your real profit and the duration of your deposit. Thanks to this, you can compare different deposits on equal terms.
Will the deposit calculator also work for savings accounts
Yes, in many cases the parameters of a savings account can be entered in the same way as deposits, especially if the interest rate is known and capitalization takes place in specific cycles. However, it is worth remembering that savings accounts may have variable interest rates, so treat the calculator's results as an approximation, not a guarantee.
If you want to consciously compare bank offers, check how much you will actually earn on your deposit and whether you can beat inflation, use the prepared tool. Enter the deposit parameters and the deposit calculator will immediately show you a full analysis of the gross and net profit and the real value of your savings.
