The bike size calculator is an advanced online tool designed to help you choose the optimal bike frame size. Correct frame selection is crucial for riding comfort, pedaling efficiency and cyclist safety. Riding on a frame that is too small puts excessive strain on your knees and spine and makes the bike nervous to ride. In turn, a frame that is too large makes it difficult to maneuver, forces an unnaturally extended body position and may cause painful bruises to the groin when suddenly dismounting from the saddle.
Our calculator selects the frame size based on your height (cm) and, optionally, a more accurate parameter of standover height, i.e. internal leg length (cm), adapting the result to the selected type of bike: mountain bike (MTB), road, trekking or city bike.
How to calculate bicycle frame size? Step-over method
Choosing a frame based on height is a useful tip, but the most accurate method used by professionals is measuring the length of the inside leg (stride-step):
- Stand barefoot against a wall with your legs slightly apart (approx. 15-20 cm).
- Place a book between your legs and move it up as far as it will go (simulating the pressure of the saddle).
- Measure the distance from the spine of the book to the floor. This is your stride length (leg in cm).
Multiply the obtained value by the appropriate factor and optionally divide by 2.54 to convert to inches:
- Mountain bike (MTB):
Size (inches) = (Leg in cm × 0.226) - Road bike:
Size (cm) = Leg in cm × 0.665 - Trekking/cross bike:
Size (cm) = Leg in cm × 0.630(or inches when divided by 2.54) - City bike:

What should I do if my height is between two frame sizes?
If you fall exactly between sizes, take your riding style and body proportions into account. A smaller frame will provide greater maneuverability and a sporty character (a common choice in MTB). A larger frame will provide a more stable ride and a more upright, comfortable position (recommended for touring bikes).
Why are mountain bike frame sizes in inches and road bike frame sizes in centimeters?
This is due to historical conditions and the traditions of producers. Road bikes come from Europe (mainly France and Italy), where the metric system is used. Mountain bikes, on the other hand, were made in the USA (California), hence the sizes are given in inches.
Is women's frame size different from men's?
Women's frames (often labeled Lady or WSD) have different geometry than men's frames for the same size. They usually have a shorter top tube (adapted to the proportionally shorter torso of women) and a lower step-over height to facilitate boarding.
How to adjust the saddle height after purchasing a bicycle?
Sit on the saddle and place your heel on the pedal in its lowest position. Your leg should be completely straight. When pedaling with the ball of the foot, the lower leg will be slightly bent at the knee (at an angle of approximately 25-30 degrees), which is an optimal and safe position.
