How to convert the eighth-grade exam result into points?

In recruitment to secondary schools, percentage results of the eighth-grade exam are converted into points according to fixed weights:Polish language × 0.35, mathematics × 0.35 i modern foreign language × 0.30. You can get a maximum of100 pointsfor the exam - that's half of the 200 points you can get in the entire recruitment process.

Calculation example

The student achieved: 72% in Polish, 58% in mathematics and 81% in English. Points: 72 × 0.35 = 25.2; 58 × 0.35 = 20.3; 81 × 0.30 = 24.3. Total:69.8points for the exam.

What's next for points?

Dates 2026: exam, results, recruitment

The eighth-grade exam takes place in Maymaju(three consecutive days: Polish, mathematics, foreign language), CKE publishes the results atthe beginning of Julyin the ZIU system, and students receive certificates a few days later - they are sent to the recruitment committees. Lists of those qualified for secondary schools usually appear in the second half of July. You cannot fail the exam - there is no threshold, but the result is half of the points in the recruitment process, so every percentage counts.

How many points do you need for a good high school?

The thresholds depend on the city and department: to enter the best high schools in large cities you need165–185 points, good departments require 140–165 points, technical studies 100–150 points. You can calculate the full recruitment result (examination + certificate + achievements) inhigh school points calculator.

Points from the certificate - how grades are converted into recruitment points

The other half of the pool (max 100 points) comes not from the exam, but from the primary school leaving certificate and additional achievements. Points are awarded for grades in four subjects (Polish language, mathematics and two indicated by the secondary school for a given class):

GradePoints for the subject
excellent (6)18 points
very good (5)17 points
good (4)14 points
satisfactory (3)8 points
passing (2)2 points

Four items give a maximum of72 points. In addition:certificate with distinction - 7 points, social activity/volunteering - 3 pointsandup to 18 pointsfor special achievements (winner/finalist of curatorial competitions, artistic and sports competitions). Therefore, you can get 100 points in total from the certificate, and 200 points in the entire recruitment process. What to do if you run out of points for your dream school

The recruitment system rewards a well-thought-out order of departments on the list of preferences - it is worth entering a few or a dozen of them, from the most dreamed of to the "safest ones". If, despite this, you do not qualify anywhere in the primary round, supplementary recruitmentis launched (usually in August) for vacant places in schools that have not met the quota. Remember toconfirm your will to accept- provide the originals of the certificate and certificate of exam result within the specified deadline; lack of confirmation means removal from the list despite qualification. Before submitting your application, compare last year's point thresholds of the branches you are interested in with your own result - this is the best measure of your real chances.
