Online Azimuth Calculator - Accurate Direction and Position Calculation

Online Azimuth Calculator is a precise tool that allows you to quickly calculate the azimuth between two points on the map or in the field. Thanks to it, you can determine the direction of movement, determine geographical orientation or optimize the route based on GPS coordinates. Perfect for surveyors, sailors, astronomers, travelers and anyone working with maps or satellite navigation.

What is azimuth and how to calculate it?

Azimuth is the angle between the direction of true north and the line connecting the reference point with the destination point. It is expressed in degrees from 0° to 360°, where 0° means north, 90° - east, 180° - south, and 270° - west. The WebP.pl azimuth calculator uses trigonometric formulas based on geographic coordinates to obtain a result accurate to a fraction of a degree.

How to use the azimuth calculator?

  • Enter the coordinates of the starting point (X₁, Y₁ or latitude and longitude).
  • Enter the coordinates of the destination point (X₂, Y₂).
  • ClickCalculate the azimuth of- the result will be displayed immediately.
  • Optionally, you can select the angle unit: decimal degrees, minutes, or radians.

The tool will automatically determine the direction relative to north and allow you to calculate the reverse azimuth, i.e. the return direction between the same points.

Why use our calculator?

  • High accuracy– precise calculations using spherical formulas.
  • Support for GPS coordinates– compatible with WGS84 and UTM systems.
  • Instant results– no need to install additional software.
  • Support for maps and projects- ideal for calculating routes, courses and geographical orientation.

Applications of the azimuth calculator

Geodesy and cartography

The tool allows you to determine the direction between measurement points on geodetic maps, which facilitates the development of plans, topographic maps and spatial analyses.

Nautical and Air Navigation

Azimuth enables navigation across open water and air, making it easier to maintain a constant heading based on geographic coordinates.

Astronomy

In astronomy, azimuth determines the position of celestial bodies relative to the horizon, which makes it easier to plan observations and photographs of the sky.

Tourism and survival

In the field, azimuth helps you orient yourself in space, plan a route with a compass and avoid navigation errors.

Azimuth calculation example

Let's assume that point A has coordinates (52.2297, 21.0122) and point B has coordinates (41.8919, 12.5113). After entering them into the calculator, we get the azimuth of211.4°, which means that the direction from Warsaw to Rome is approximately 211° relative to the north.

Azimuth formula

Azimuth = arctan( sin(Δλ) * cos(φ₂),
                cos(φ₁) * sin(φ₂) – sin(φ₁) * cos(φ₂) * cos(Δλ) )

where φ is the latitude and λ is the longitude. The result is converted to the range 0°–360°.

Additional functions of the azimuth calculator

  • Convert coordinates between different systems (e.g. WGS84 and NAD83).
  • Reverse azimuth calculation.
  • Export results to CSV or PDF.
  • Ability to add multiple points and create paths.
