Slang changes faster than any dictionary can record it. A word that was everywhere in March sounds like a relic by November — and a parent or teacher usually learns about it only when it lands at the dinner table. This dictionary collects the terms actually circulating online: what they mean, where they came from, and in what situation people use them.
Where new words come from
Most entries have one of three sources. First, borrowings, most often from African-American Vernacular English, which reach the wider internet through TikTok and streams — that is how „rizz", „gyat" and „based" arrived. Second, abbreviations from text messaging: „fr", „ngl", „npc". Third, memes with no meaning at all, such as „67" or „skibidi", where the joke is precisely that there is nothing to translate.
That third group confuses adults most. They look for a definition and there is none — because the function of such a term is to signal belonging, not to carry content.
How to use this dictionary
