What is volumetric weight (CBM)?
Volumetric weight, also known asvolumetric weightorchargeable weight, is the way courier companies and carriers determine the price of transporting a shipment. Instead of basing only on its actual weight, they also take into account the space it takes up in the vehicle or container.
In practice, this means that if your parcel is light but takes up a lot of space (e.g. a large box with a pillow), the transport cost will be calculated based on theweight converted from the volume, and not the actual weight in kilograms.
CBM = (Length × Width × Height) / 1,000,000
For air transport, an additional coefficient is often used:
CBM × 167 = volumetric kg.How does the volumetric weight calculator work?
