How to use the paving stone calculator step by step

The magic is that you can calculate in two ways:from the dimensions of the rectangleorfrom the finished area in m². The latter is great when you already have measurements from the project, map or previous calculations.

  1. Select the area calculation mode.If the area is rectangular (e.g. driveway 10.5 m × 4.0 m) - select "Rectangle". If the terrain is irregular and you already have m² - select "Own".
  2. Set reserve for jibes (%).This is a fast slider. For simple pavements, a few percent is often enough, but for more complex systems it is worth increasing the value.
  3. Enter the dimensions of the cube (mm).The most common formats are e.g. 200×100, 200×200, 300×200 – but you can enter any. The calculator calculates the area of ​​a single cube and counts the pieces on this basis.
  4. Add price.You can specify the price per m² (the simplest) or count the packages if you know the number of pieces in the package. As a result, you will get the cost of the material.

What the results mean and how to read them without guessing

The results are presented so that they can be immediately translated into an order. The most important are two numbers:net area(this is the actual area to be laid) andpurchase area(net + reserve). It is the purchase area that you should compare with the offers of manufacturers and warehouses.

The number of cubesis the result calculated from the dimensions in millimeters. If you enter 200×100, the calculator knows that one cube is 0.02 m² (because 200 mm × 100 mm = 20,000 mm² = 0.02 m²). Then divides the purchase area by the area of ​​the cube and rounds up.

Paczkipackages appear when you specify "pieces per package". This is convenient because some suppliers sell in packages or layers. The tool rounds to whole packs, so you don't end up with a fraction of a pack.

Selection of stock and ballast - small decisions that save the budget

In practice, two things cause the most nerves: incorrectly selected stock and underestimated ballast. The stock is simple - it's a percentage. Bedding can be tricky, because a difference of 1-2 cm over a large surface makes a noticeable change in m³.

Treat the table as a practical hint, not dogma. If you have a lot of arches, slants, edges, steps, grates, linear drains - the supply increases. If the layout is "clean" and simple, you can go lower. The best test is: how many places are there where you will need to cut? The more, the more inventory ceases to be an option and becomes an obligation.

Cost of material and labor - how to combine it sensibly into one amount

The calculator allows you to calculate the cost of material in two ways: from the price per m² or from packages (if you know the pieces in the package and the price of the package). In everyday life, the easiest thing is the price per m², because that's how the offer is most often given. Packages are useful when you buy a specific series or the supplier settles the packaging.

This will not replace a full cost estimate (because it does not include e.g. edging, sand, geotextile, compaction), but it gives a solid starting point for a conversation with the contractor.

How much paving stones should I take?

The stock depends on how much teasing there will be. If the layout is simple and you have few edges, a few percent is often enough. When the terrain is irregular, you have patterns (e.g. herringbone) or a lot of obstacles to get around - the margin should be higher. In the calculator, you can set this with the slider and immediately see the impact on the purchase area and the number of cubes.

Is it better to count by m² or by parcels?

If you have a standard offer from the price list, it is usually most convenient to count by m². Packages are great when you know exactly how many pieces are in a package (or layer) and want to order "full packages", without fractions. Where can I get the dimensions of the cube in millimeters?

If you have a different size, enter it manually - the tool calculates the area of ​​one cube and counts the pieces on this basis.

Is the result "ballast (m³)" the exact quantity to order?

This is a quantity calculated geometrically: net area times bedding thickness. In the real world, there is also how much the soil "works", what the compaction looks like and whether the ballast is even everywhere. Therefore, treat the result as a very good starting point, and when ordering, add a reasonable safety margin, especially if the terrain has slopes or was previously unevenly prepared.

What does "total weight" mean and why do I need it?

Mass is useful for logistics. If you order a larger quantity of cubes, transport and unloading may be the limitation, not the price per m². Knowing the weight in tons makes it easier to select transport, determine delivery conditions and prepare a storage place so as not to block the entrance or destroy the freshly hardened surface.

Will the calculator count the edges (curbs) and their length?

For the rectangular mode, the tool calculates the perimeter (perimeter) and shows it as the approximate length of the perimeter in linear meters. This is very useful when pricing a curb or driveway, but remember: if the shape is not a rectangle or you have gaps (e.g. an entrance), it should be treated as a guide and adjusted to the actual design.

What if I have an L-shaped area or multiple zones?

It is most convenient to count each zone separately: either break the shape into rectangles and add them up, or use the "Custom (m²)" mode if you have already calculated the total area. Then you choose the spare part for the most "taunting" part, because this is usually the part that generates waste.
