How to accurately measure the lawn area?
To correctly calculate the amount of materials, you need to determine the area (area) of the area under the lawn:
- Regular shapes (square, rectangle):Measure the length and width in meters, then multiply these values by each other to get the result in square meters (m²).
- Irregular shapes:If your garden has a complicated shape, divide it into smaller geometric figures (rectangles, triangles), calculate the area of each of them and sum the results.
- Correction for obstacles:From the total area, subtract the area of the terrace, paths, flower beds, trees and bushes that will not contain grass.

Calculating the amount of soil for the lawn – how thick should the layer be?
For the grass to take root well and have access to nutrients, the substrate should have at least 10-15 cm of fertile soil (chernozem). To calculate the amount of soil needed in cubic meters (m³), use the formula:
Amount of soil (m³) = Lawn area (m²) · Layer thickness (m)
For example, if you are laying a lawn with an area of 200 m² and you want to fertilize 10 cm (0.1 m) of fresh soil, you will need: 200 · 0.1 = 20 meters cubic meters (m³) of soil (i.e. about 1-2 large trucks).

How much grass seed do I need for 1 are (100 m²) of plot?
For standard home grass mixtures, it is recommended to sow 3.5 to 4 kilograms of seeds per 100 m² (1 are). When sowing by hand, it is worth buying about 10% more seeds for possible corrections and losses caused by birds.
Seed or rolled lawn – what to choose?
A seeded lawn is much cheaper, but it requires time (the effect is visible after 4-6 weeks) and intensive care of the seedlings. A roll lawn gives an immediate green garden effect, is resistant to heavy rains and birds, but its cost is up to 5-8 times higher.
What soil is best for a lawn?
Permeable, humus-rich soil with a slightly acidic reaction (pH 5.5 - 6.5) is best for a lawn. Too clayey soil should be mixed with sand, and sandy soil should be enriched with compost or peat.
When is the best time to sow grass?
The best dates for sowing grass are spring (from mid-April to the end of May) and late summer/autumn (from mid-August to October). During these periods, air and soil humidity are optimal, and temperatures are favorable for germination.
How often should you water a freshly seeded lawn?
A freshly sown lawn must be constantly moist. It should be watered every day (on hot days even 2-3 times a day) with fine rain (mist) so as not to wash the seeds from the ground. We limit watering only after the first mowing.
