Introduction to the
passive energy converter Discover our freeonline passive energy converter, which has been designed for electrical engineers, designers and people responsible for managing and optimizing power systems. The tool allows easy conversion between popular power/reactive energy units, such as:
- VAR– reactive volt-ampere,
- kVAR– reactive kilovolt-ampere,
- MVAR– reactive megavolt-ampere.
The converter is helpful both in quick design calculations and in the analysis of measurement data from energy meters, energy quality analyzers or SCADA systems.
Supported units and conversion factors
Our tool supports conversion between basic units of power/reactive energy used in the power industry. Thanks to this, you can easily compare data from different reports, devices and standards.
Main units
- VAR– basic unit,
- kVAR– 1 kVAR = 1,000 VAR,
- MVAR– 1 MVAR = 1,000 kVAR = 1,000,000 VAR.
In addition, some reports may contain entries in derived units, which can also be easily converted to VAR, kVAR or MVAR.
Automatic conversion
The converter automatically applies the appropriate decimal conversion factors. In practice, this means that:
- you enter the value in the selected input unit,
- the tool converts the result to the selected target unit,
- you do not have to manually remember about moving the decimal point and powers of 10.
How to use the passive energy converter - step by step
- Entering the value
in the field input, enter a number representing the energy or reactive power you want to convert, e.g. 250, 1.5 or 0.03. - Selecting the source unit
From the drop-down menu, select the unit in which the input value is given, e.g.VAR, kVARorMVAR. - Selecting the target unit
In the second menu, select the unit y
