What are mathematical symbols used for

Mathematical symbols are necessary wherever formulas, equations or relations between quantities need to be written down: in diploma and scientific theses, presentations, posts on a blog, Facebook or Twitter comments, as well as in spreadsheets and office documents. Characters such as ∑ (sum), ∫ (integral), π (pi), √ (root), ≤ ≥ (inequalities) and ∞ (infinity) are not directly available on the keyboard - that's why a convenient copy palette is so useful.

How to use

Select a category (e.g. Basic, Operators, Greek Letters, Set Theory, Calculus) and copy mode:Unicode symbol- a ready-made character to paste anywhere,LaTeX command- e.g.\sum, \inftyfor use in TeX/LaTeX documents or Markdown editors,HTML entity- e.g.∑to websites. Click on any tile and the symbol will immediately go to your clipboard. You can also filter the symbols by entering the name (e.g. "alpha", "integral", "pi") in the Search field.

The most important groups of mathematical symbols

The tool divides symbols into clear categories:

 • Basic— ±, ×, ÷, √, ∛, ∞, ≈, ≠, ≡, °
 • Operators— ∑, ∏, ∐, ·, ∘, ⌊⌋, ⌈⌉, !
 • Relations— =, <, >, ≤, ≥, ≪, ≫, ∼, ≅
 • Set theory— ∈, ∉, ∅, ⊂, ⊆, ∪, ∩, ℕ, ℤ, ℝ, ℂ
 • Calculus— ∫, ∬, ∭, ∮, ∂, ∇, Δ, lim, d/dx
 • Greek letters— α, β, γ, δ, ε, θ, λ, μ, π, σ, φ, ω and others
 • Arrows— →, ←, ↔, ⇒, ⇔, ↦, ⟶
 • Logic— ¬, ∧, ∨, ⊕, ∀, ∃, ∴, ∵, ⊢, ⊨
 • Geometry— ∠, ⊥, ∥, △, ≅

FAQ

Are the copied symbols are they displayed correctly everywhere?

Yes - all symbols in the tool are Unicode (UTF-8) characters, supported by virtually every modern operating system, browser, word processor (Word, LibreOffice), instant messenger and social networking site. The only exceptions are very old systems or fonts without Unicode support.

What is the difference between "Unicode Symbol" mode and "LaTeX Command" mode?

The Unicode symbol is a ready-made graphic character (e.g. ∑) - paste it like regular letters. A LaTeX command is text code (e.g.\sum) used in LaTeX, Overleaf, Markdown editors, and math-enabled CMS systems. In LaTeX, the symbol must be inside math mode:$\sum_{i=1}^n$.

How to copy multiple symbols at once?

Use the "Export Symbol List" section at the bottom of the palette. Select a category, mode and separator (space, newline, comma), click "Filter" - then copy the entire list using the "Copy list" button.

Can I insert math symbols on social media?

Yes! Unicode characters work directly on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube comments, and most other platforms. Just copy the symbol (Unicode mode) and paste like regular text. LaTeX commands only work on platforms that render them (e.g. Reddit with fancy pants editor enabled, GitHub Issues, Jupyter Notebook).
