Rules for writing currency symbols in text (Position and spaces)

One of the most common linguistic and typographic dilemmas is whether a currency symbol should be written before or after a number and whether it should be separated by a space. These rules depend on the standards in force in the specific language of the target country:

  • Polish language:According to the rules of Polish orthography and typography, verbal abbreviations of currencies (e.g.zloty, gr) and symbols (e.g.$, ) are written **after the number**, separating them consistent, non-breaking space (e.g.PLN 100, $50). The notation of a symbol before a number (e.g.$50) is a calque from English and is considered a typographical error in Polish texts.
