How to Use the AI Agent ROI Calculator

The AI agent ROI calculator compares the monthly cost of an agent with the value of the time it saves you. Enter three inputs and see the results right away.

  1. Agent cost / mo. - the total monthly cost, such as $900.
  2. Hours saved - how many hours per month the agent saves you, such as 120.
  3. Hourly rate - the value of one hour of work, such as $25/h.

You will get: value of time saved / mo., net savings / mo., and ROI. The calculations run locally in your browser.

Example: $900 in cost, 120 hours, and $25/h gives $3,000.00 in time value, $2,100.00 in net savings, and 233.33% ROI.

Enter your numbers, check the result, and change the assumptions if you want to see another scenario.

How to Estimate Monthly Hours Saved by the Agent

Hours saved is the most important input. Estimate it from the tasks the agent performs or supports.

  • List repeatable tasks: answering questions, organizing tickets, qualifying leads, reports, and order handling in Shopify, Etsy, eBay, Amazon, Vinted, or TikTok.
  • Count how many times each task occurs in a month.
  • Estimate the time difference before the agent and after you deploy it.
  • Multiply the difference by the number of occurrences and add the results.

Add up the time saved across tasks and enter the total in the calculator. It is best to base it on two to four weeks of observation, not a one-time impression.

If the agent works in only one area, count only that area. If it works in several, add the savings, but do not count the same minutes twice.

How to Set the Agent's Monthly Cost and Hourly Rate

Enter the agent cost as one monthly amount. Include what actually hits your budget.

  • Tool or service fees.
  • Implementation costs spread over the period you use the agent.
  • Staff time to configure the agent and review its responses.
  • Integrations with systems such as your store, help desk, spreadsheet, or communication tools.

Treat the hourly rate as the value of the work the agent takes off your plate. It can be the rate of the person doing that work, the cost of your own hour, or a market rate. Enter it in the same currency as the cost. Check current vendor pricing because the calculator does not know variable rates.

If you do not know what to enter for cost, start with the monthly fee alone, then add other items. That way you can see when the result stops being positive.

How to Interpret ROI and Net Savings

Value of time saved = hours saved x hourly rate. Net savings = value of time - agent cost. ROI = (net savings / agent cost) x 100%.

For $900 in cost, 120 hours, and $25/h: the value of time is $3,000.00, net savings is $2,100.00, and ROI is 233.33%. A positive ROI means the value of time is greater than the cost for that month. Net savings tells you how many dollars remain after subtracting the cost. A result of zero is the break-even point, and a negative result means the cost is higher than the time value you assumed.

ROI is monthly and is not annualized. Do not judge it apart from the dollar amounts - a high percentage with low net savings is not always better than a moderate ROI with a high dollar amount.

It is worth checking several scenarios: conservative, realistic, and optimistic. That shows you how ROI changes when you save fewer or more hours.

Limitations and What the Tool Does Not Calculate

The calculator performs a simple monthly comparison. It is not a full financial model.

  • It does not account for taxes, payroll taxes, or credits.
  • It does not automatically add implementation, integration, training, oversight, fixes, or maintenance unless you enter them.
  • It does not know current platform pricing, exchange rates, fees, or your contract terms.
  • It does not measure the agent's work quality, errors, customer satisfaction, or reputation risk.
  • It does not calculate cash flows, discount future amounts, or annualize ROI.

The result is approximate when you are still testing the agent, do not know exact hours, costs may change, or you work in several currencies. Treat it as an initial assessment before a business decision.

Remember that saved time can be used to grow the business, serve customers, or rest. The calculator values it only through the rate you enter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the AI agent ROI calculator?

It is a tool that calculates the monthly ROI of an AI agent based on cost, hours saved, and hourly rate. It shows the value of time saved, net savings, and ROI. The calculations run locally in your browser. That lets you quickly compare cost with the value of time.

How do you calculate AI agent ROI?

Enter the monthly cost, hours saved, and hourly rate. The calculator finds the value of time, then net savings, and then ROI. For $900, 120 hours, and $25/h, you get $3,000.00 in time value, $2,100.00 in net savings, and 233.33% ROI. You can change any of those numbers if you want to test another scenario.

What does net savings mean?

It is the value of time saved minus the monthly agent cost. It tells you how many dollars remain after subtracting the cost. It does not include taxes and fees that you do not enter. The final profit depends on your real costs and savings.

What hours should I enter?

Enter a realistic number of hours saved per month. Count repeatable tasks, their frequency, and the time difference before and after automation. If you do not have measurements, use a conservative estimate. A good practice is to record your assumptions and compare them after a month.

Does the AI agent ROI calculator use US dollars?

By default, the calculator uses US dollars. Enter cost and rate in US dollars. If you use another currency, convert the values to US dollars before entering them. The calculator does not convert currencies for you.

When is the result only an estimate?

When you do not know the exact hours saved, costs may change, or you leave out taxes and extra fees. This tool is for an initial monthly assessment, not a full financial model. Check current pricing and your own terms. The more you account for outside the calculator, the fuller your decision picture will be.

The tool runs locally, and the costs and rates you enter are estimates - verify current agent, API, and labor rates before making a decision.
