  2. Enter the length of your step in centimeters. You can measure several steps and divide by their number.
  3. In step mode, enter the number of steps. In distance mode, enter kilometers or meters.
  4. ClickCalculateand read the result. In a split second you will find out how many steps correspond to a kilometer, or how many kilometers you have done.

How it works

The basis is a simple equation:distance = number of steps × step length. In reverse mode, the equation is transformed:number of steps = distance ÷ step length. Thanks to this, the calculator calculates values exactly for your parameters and does not use average data.

Usage examples

Example 1: 10,000 steps, step length 70 cm

Distance = 10,000 × 0.70 m = 7 km. This is the popular "10,000 steps a day" goal.

Example 2: 5 km walk, step length 65 cm

Number of steps = 5000 m ÷ 0.65 m ≈ 7692 steps. You can check whether the application counts your steps correctly.

Example 3: 3 km run, step length 90 cm

Number of steps = 3000 m ÷ 0.90 m ≈ 3333 steps. Runners take fewer steps per kilometer than walkers because they have a longer stride.

Reference table

Step length 1000 steps 5000 steps 10,000 steps
60 cm 0.6 km 3 km 6 km
70 cm 0.7 km 3.5 km 7 km
80 cm 0.8 km 4 km 8 km
90 cm 0.9 km 4.5 km 9 km

The table shows how the step length affects the result. Therefore, it is important to set your own and not use the default one.

Why use a calculator

  • Gives you a precise result tailored to your step length.
  • Helps you track your progress in physical activity.
  • It motivates by showing the real distance covered during the day.
  • Makes it easier to convert steps into calories and exercise time.

How many steps is that? Table: kilometers ↔ steps

Assuming an average step length75 cm(typical for a person 170–180 cm tall): 1 km ≈ 1330 steps. Shorter people take shorter steps (approx. 65-70 cm), taller people take longer steps (up to 80-85 cm), so the calculator allows you to enter your own step length or height.
