Rule
We always write "nie" and the verb "ma" (from "to have") separately.
Why so?
"Nie ma" is the negative form of the verb "to have", so we write "nie" separately, just like with any other verb: "I don't know", "I don't want". The hyphenated spelling "mute" is an error - although note: there is an adjective "mute/mute" (unable to speak), which looks identical, but it is a completely different word with a different meaning and a different accent.
Usage examples
- Nie ma nikogo w domu.
- There's no point in arguing.
